2. What is Games Design?
Games design is the initial planning and development process
before creating a game.
This includes all the planning and artwork that may or may not be
featured in the final product.
Games design is important because it allows you to go through
multiple steps of planning, eliminating any ideas that would be
unsuccessful and target the game to a certain audience, ensuring
that no aspects have been reused and all points of the game are
aimed to sell and provide entertainment.
3. Games design in College
Games design in college starts by applying the ability to
review games, pick out the good and bad selling points of
a game and apply it to your own unique ideas that you will
be able to develop later.
Games design also applies the idea of copyright to the
designs developed later on your own, this ensures that
when creating your own content, whether it is for games
design or not, it will not be copyright and claimed by other
companies etc.
4. Games Design Part 2
In the second part of the Unit it will progress into copyright and the features
behind this and how this could affect the content you make. This half of the unit
is raising awareness and developing your knowledge of copyright and protecting
you from it.
The unit will also cover making and preparing game design documents that are
correctly formatted and presented professionally in order to showcase your
ideas.
A final aspect of games design is gaining the ability to present your game ideas
to stakeholders and gain an interest in your game while, this is a valuable part of
the unit as presentational skills will be able to help you in most situations in
later life such as job interviews.
5. Progression after Games Design
After completion of the Games Design Unit along side either the first or second
year of the course there are many paths that you can take to progress your
career and your skills.
This could include going to university and progressing your skills and ideas for
games design as well as implementing them to larger games and starting to
draft and design not only ideas for games but things such as levels and
characters etc.
Another thing that Games Design could lead into is going to work for larger
game companies and working on larger scale projects as part of a team to
achieve a goal such as designing one of the bigger game franchises that are
being released or are yet to be released.
