Applications
symbIoTe
Danilo Giacomi, NAVIGO
Grant Agreement No 688156
© 2017 – The symbIoTe Consortium13
To build smartphone applications (Android or iOS) that combine
resources offered by L1-compliant platforms and/or available Domain
Enablers and demonstrate cross-domain features.
We look for new IoT applications or extensions of existing IoT
applications built by exploiting symbIoTe infrastructure.
What we look for…
Enabler
© 2017 – The symbIoTe Consortium14
• Proposed applications should focus on the domains of Smart City,
Smart Residence and Smart Stadium/Buildings or a combination of
the above. Applications will be tested during the symbIoTe trials
(mid/end 2018).
What to focus on
Smart Residence (L1/L2/L3)
Accesses and manages functions across available devices belonging to different subsystems, from
smartphones and media players over automation devices to personal health and environmental sensors.
Smart Stadium (L1)
Enables the “beacon cloud”, an indoor geo-location service aiming at a centralized and effective beacon
management by infrastructure providers in order to facilitate the creation of innovative applications.
Smart Mobility and Ecological Routing (L1/L2)
Combines air quality measurements from fixed stations in cities with measurements obtained from low-
cost, mobile sensors with the aim of creating ecologically preferable routes for users.

• Resources are made available by eight IoT platforms and one
Enabler
• For Smart City / Smart Mobility:
– Platforms:
• OpenIot, openUWEDAT, MoBaaS, Green Route Enabler
– Examples of available Data:
• Outdoor air quality data
• Mobility data (POIs, spatial air quality, distances, traffic conditions, parking availability…)
• For Smart Residence:
– Platforms:
• Symphony, nAssist
– Examples of available Data/Actuators:
• Sensors and actuators for lights, dimmers, RGB lights, curtains
• Indoor air quality data
Available resources for Apps
© 2017 – The symbIoTe Consortium16
• For Smart Stadium:
– Platforms:
• Beacons Platform / Visitor Platform / PromoWall Platform / Retailer Platform
– Examples of available Data/Services:
• Location, Actions on display (e.g. Show Promotion)
• Other available data
– Smart Yachting use case data (Yacht data, information from sensors installed in
the Port)
– Kiola Platform Data (health and person-related data)
Available resources for Apps
© 2017 – The symbIoTe Consortium17
• To make a symbIoTe-powered smartphone application, applicants
need to:
1. Analyse the symbIoTe solution for Level 1 compliance
2. Build or extend a smartphone application that uses resources
offered by L1-compliant platforms and/or available Domain
Enablers
3. Provide feedback and comments which can improve and simplify
the process of creating L1-compliant applications
What we expect from you
© 2017 – The symbIoTe Consortium18
The logical steps an App has to follow are:
1. Looking for interesting resources in the Core
2. Fetching their endpoints from the Core
3. Directly interacting with platform’s/enabler’s resources via
OData protocol or REST
