FIWARE NGSI-LD is an extension of the
FIWARE platform that introduces support
for the Linked Data principles and the NGSI-
LD data model.
NGSI-LD stands for "Next Generation
Service Interface for Linked Data," and it is
an open standard developed by the
European Telecommunications Standards
Institute (ETSI) as a key enabler for the
Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart City
applications.
Vision
• Combine artificial intelligence
processes, cloud storage and cloud
computing technologies, massive
open data collection with
customizable dashboards for
automatically monitoring, classifying,
managing, and predicting emerging
land changes
Combine
What we want to do
• Provide an innovative solution
based on the integration and
customized processing of
massive open data collections,
including Earth Observation data
to monitor and support decision
takers in the field of Green Areas
management
Integrate
Innovate
• Improve the current solutions and services and open new business avenues for novel
applications based on Open Data libraries and enabling technologies such as EO, AI, Cloud
and Big Data
• Use of integrated Open Data collections though Open Data infrastructures such as EU Portal,
CEF Context broker and Copernicus Hub to empower customized services that optimized the
use of data processes addressing them into different monitoring services

Approach
Vienna, 12-13 June, 2023 | #FIWARESummit www.fiware.org
Pilots
• Data driven green and just transition (Municipality of Milano): with SPOTTED, Milano plans to develop a data platform to
analyze and predict urban, social, and economic impacts of green transformation initiatives. The platform will serve as a
practical policy-making asset, as it will provide machine learning tools to assess, plan, and develop sustainability programs
such as ForestaMI, the Milan building regeneration plan, or the municipal de-sealing action;
• Monitoring sustainability of tourism and urban planning (Helsinki): the pilot in Helsinki focuses on identifying the green areas
out of the satellite imagery at the city level. This information is used to create two data products, one for monitoring the
sustainability of nature tourism and one for maintaining the green index indicator in support of urban planning;
• Monitoring urban regeneration strategies (Municipality of Napoli): the Naples pilot project focuses on the use of satellite
images to create multi-temporal and multi-parameter thematic maps for a thorough analysis of the starting point of the actions
and for a constant and continuous monitoring of the achievement of the identified objectives.
Workplan
Vienna, 12-13 June, 2023 | #FIWARESummit www.fiware.org
Roles/1
• TLC will be the coordinator of the proposal. It will take care of the correct achievement of
the project objectives and contractual commitments.
• FVH, CDM and CDN, the Finnish and Italian Public Administrations involved in the
project , will have the main role of: (i) providing the requirements for the services, related
to green transition and sustainable urban planning, to be developed during the project
execution; (ii) providing local data to leverage on (e.g. open data, IoT data, urban plans,
cartographies). They will also support the validation of the defined/implemented services
in their territory and provide proof of service replicability and cross-border capability.
• ENG will be the technical coordinator of the project; it will be in charge of (i) defining the
overall SPOTTED framework design, including integration requirements definition to
achieve a full interoperability among external systems, in primis the European Open
Data Portal, and internal assets provided by all the technical partners involved (in
particular CEF Context Broker building block and spatial technologies) . ENG will be also
involved in the exploitation and business sustainability activities.
Vienna, 12-13 June, 2023 | #FIWARESummit www.fiware.org
Roles/2
•FF will manage the work on the dissemination, sustainability and long-term
liability, by committing to an Open Source model. FF will also bring its
expertise in the deployment and support for the CEF Context Broker building
block, a key component of the SPOTTED technical approach.
•Gissky and L40 represent the expert on spatial technologies in the consortium.
They will bring their technical assets facilitating the (re)use of spatial data,
supporting the PAs involved in taking advantage of it. They will lead the pilot
activities on the field during the project and, as SMEs, will be fully involved in
the exploitation plan design and implementation.

What is Context Broker/1
• Most businesses and public administrations are rich in data, but few have mastered the art of using it to
analyse what’s happening in their organisation.
• A local municipality might record population data, along with information about traffic management, waste, and
air quality. Typically, everything would sit in separate systems.
• Bringing that data together in the right way with the right context can produce richer insights about that local
community, helping citizens and administrations make informed decisions.
Harnessing the power of data
• CEF Context Broker is an API that can integrate data from multiple systems, creating a holistic view
of information.
• By providing the layer that describes each type of data, the Context Broker makes it possible to
create an interface that makes it easy for anyone to view and interpret big data.
• Using the Context Broker, organisations can monitor their metrics in real time through live updates.
You can share the context information you choose with third parties, enabling process improvements
and innovation across the whole data value chain.

Editor's Notes

  • #10 Co-VAL aims to explore the notion of value created in public administration via the participation of citizens & civil servants, along with finding new ways of integrating respective practices as a way to transform public administration services and processes. The project will mainly contribute into the analysis of innovative ways for (a) designing service models for public administration processes, mainly demand-driven (i.e. cases where service providers and the users of services, such as citizens and organizations, are the key actors), and (b) by bottom-up supply (e.g, through civil servants, front-line workers, or third parties) that promotes the voluntary and active participation of society in the transformative efforts of public administrations.
