The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

The Building Blocks of QuestDB, a Time Series Databasejavier ramirez
Talk Delivered at Valencia Codes Meetup 2024-06.
Traditionally, databases have treated timestamps just as another data type. However, when performing real-time analytics, timestamps should be first class citizens and we need rich time semantics to get the most out of our data. We also need to deal with ever growing datasets while keeping performant, which is as fun as it sounds.
It is no wonder time-series databases are now more popular than ever before. Join me in this session to learn about the internal architecture and building blocks of QuestDB, an open source time-series database designed for speed. We will also review a history of some of the changes we have gone over the past two years to deal with late and unordered data, non-blocking writes, read-replicas, or faster batch ingestion.

Recently we have observed the rise of open-source Large Language Models (LLMs) that are community-driven or developed by the AI market leaders, such as Meta (Llama3), Databricks (DBRX) and Snowflake (Arctic). On the other hand, there is a growth in interest in specialized, carefully fine-tuned yet relatively small models that can efficiently assist programmers in day-to-day tasks. Finally, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures have gained a lot of traction as the preferred approach for LLMs context and prompt augmentation for building conversational SQL data copilots, code copilots and chatbots.
In this presentation, we will show how we built upon these three concepts a robust Data Copilot that can help to democratize access to company data assets and boost performance of everyone working with data platforms.

Levelwise PageRank with Loop-Based Dead End Handling Strategy : SHORT REPORT ...Subhajit Sahu
Abstract — Levelwise PageRank is an alternative method of PageRank computation which decomposes the input graph into a directed acyclic block-graph of strongly connected components, and processes them in topological order, one level at a time. This enables calculation for ranks in a distributed fashion without per-iteration communication, unlike the standard method where all vertices are processed in each iteration. It however comes with a precondition of the absence of dead ends in the input graph. Here, the native non-distributed performance of Levelwise PageRank was compared against Monolithic PageRank on a CPU as well as a GPU. To ensure a fair comparison, Monolithic PageRank was also performed on a graph where vertices were split by components. Results indicate that Levelwise PageRank is about as fast as Monolithic PageRank on the CPU, but quite a bit slower on the GPU. Slowdown on the GPU is likely caused by a large submission of small workloads, and expected to be non-issue when the computation is performed on massive graphs.

Techniques to optimize the pagerank algorithm usually fall in two categories. One is to try reducing the work per iteration, and the other is to try reducing the number of iterations. These goals are often at odds with one another. Skipping computation on vertices which have already converged has the potential to save iteration time. Skipping in-identical vertices, with the same in-links, helps reduce duplicate computations and thus could help reduce iteration time. Road networks often have chains which can be short-circuited before pagerank computation to improve performance. Final ranks of chain nodes can be easily calculated. This could reduce both the iteration time, and the number of iterations. If a graph has no dangling nodes, pagerank of each strongly connected component can be computed in topological order. This could help reduce the iteration time, no. of iterations, and also enable multi-iteration concurrency in pagerank computation. The combination of all of the above methods is the STICD algorithm. [sticd] For dynamic graphs, unchanged components whose ranks are unaffected can be skipped altogether.

✅What is C++ Programming?
C++ is an enhanced and extended version of C programming language, developed by Bjarne Stroustrup in 1979 as part of his Ph.D. project. Bjarne developed what he called ‘C with Classes’ (later renamed C++) because he felt limited by the existing programming languages that were not ideal for large scale projects. He used C to build what he wanted because C was already a general-purpose language that was efficient and fast in its operations.
✅C++ Career Prospects:
With just C++ programming expertise, you will have excellent job opportunities, salaries, and career prospects. However, for a career based on programming languages such as Java and Python (which are in more demand than C++) or for careers based on front-end, back-end, and full-stack
1. Perhaps the vibe was within the air, in the middle of the anniversary of a lengthy-in past times summer time year
of passion, As soon as i planted a variety of irresistibly eccentric beauties. A nodding hippie with the plant, Datisca
cannabina will likely be a woody perennial with vaguely cannabislike foliage; it sporting actions pendulous,
shaggy, fragrant wands of bouquets that proven chains of affection-bead seeds. It transpired to me that if I have
already been gardening somebody toke in excess of the point out line, in Massachusetts as an alternative to
Rhode Island, I might have been digging the true place. And just in time to help the bud tenders between us
arrives a weirdly intriguing volume, THE LEAFLY Information TO CANNABIS: A Handbook for the trendy Customer
(Twelve, $27).
It was just a generate a difference of your time upfront of a whole new era caught up Though utilizing the
renegades of my period, lots of whom commenced buying big on gardening by tucking their herb in between
innocuous houseplants, hiding it in sunny corners of backyards or increasing it beneath basement lights. Leafly,
situated in Seattle, calls on your own “The entire earth’s most vital cannabis data useful resource.” Tens of millions
end by its website and cell apps each month. The information ensures “clarity and knowledge” of your plant which
has been all around For The key reason why that conclude Along with the Pleistocene epoch.
There’s little or no laid back again about Huge Ag pot, a completely new variety of cultivated landscape that may
soon increase from sea to shining sea. Within a paean to Price-no cost-present-day market capitalism, Leafly
details out that legalization in certain states has launched a handful of “broad enlargement” in plant materials —
growers can now determine among a lot of a huge selection of types, which incorporate White strain and Durban
Poison — together with increased great and decreased fees, due to marketplace efficiencies and Levels of Level of
competition. Indica strains are sedative, sativas are invigorating, and hybrids tumble someplace involving. What
winds up within just your stash jar are labeled because the bouquets of a woman plant. The authors describe how
cannabinoids “function their medicinal magic” (magic starting to be an excellent marketing and promoting
system) And just how THC affects us. The pot remaining smoked at Woodstock Practically certainly highlighted
THC concentrations of all-all over 3 p.c; with these days’s genetic modifications, “impressive types clock in at Just
about thirty p.c.”
Kief, terpenes, decarboxylation and vaping concentrates: There’s a great deal more evocative fetishistic language
connected to these buds than most Other folks in a farmer’s earth. You’ll stumble upon cooking hints and
sweetness approaches, even recommended munchie pairings. The wellness success of cigarette smoking are
frivolously involved: There’s no apparent Site backlink to lung most cancers, but definite “Bodily airway damage”
and compromised cardiovascular operate. I don’t see how effectively remaining nuts groove on lungsful of
polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The e-book may need concerned no fewer than a paragraph about the
consequences of marijuana within the building brains of adolescents. But that’s a bummer. For all those intrigued,
I recommend Kevin P. Hill’s “Cannabis: The Unbiased Genuine real truth About the globe’s Most favored Weed.”
I Identify my bliss in Japanese gardens, and textbooks concerning this refined and evolving kind of art keep
coming and coming. Sophie Walker’s THE JAPANESE Backyard garden (Phaidon, $sixty 9.ninety 5) is really an
Daring analyze, set up within a framework that’s each of All those historical and thematic (“Tea plus the Yard,” By
way of instance, which seems like a factor Thomas Mann might have relished). Its stylish shots are accompanied by
impressively eccentric essays. In a single of my favorites, the architect John Pawson writes about the possibility to
“really feel an personal connection with boundless landscape — as if It is really passing By the use of you and you
thru it” — over the smallest on the Kyoto gardens that entranced him. He captures, exquisitely, the equilibrium
and rhythm of relocating by means of these rigorously managed Locations. The sculptor Anish Kapoor weighs in
with sights about gardens that don’t just reveal that means but fairly “surface into” indicating. And the
mathematician Marcus du Sautoy will get absolutely substantially out with the energy of fractals in Those
individuals ferns and rocks so thoroughly established within the Japanese back again backyard — All of this tied
over the Pixar common “Up.” I want this reserve might be three times as extended and as massive.
If that Strawberry Cough pressure within the “Leafly Guideline” has loosened your tongue, It'd be really remarkable
2. to recite a litany from your quirky collective nouns we’ve bequeathed the animal kingdom. Assess up by using a
Attraction OF GOLDFINCHES: Along with other Wild Gatherings (ten Speed, $fourteen.ninety 9), by Matt Sewell.
Beguiling watercolors depict land, air and drinking water creatures, together with an obstinacy of buffalo, an
unkindness of ravens as well as a smack of jellyfish. Sewell’s descriptions are great — describing when gaggles of
geese grow to become skeins of geese, or why swirling hawks counsel boiling h2o inside a kettle. I am able to just
hear him shouting to his partner and daughters that “We have a bellowing of bullfinches concerning the chook
feeder, speedy!” This is the e-book of pleasant oddities, and don’t all of us need to own way more of Those people
inside of our lives?
To that conclude: During the ’60s and ’70s, J. R. R. Tolkien’s 1937 basic, “The Hobbit,” was Element of Every self-
respecting freak’s transportable library. The daddy-and-son team of Walter S. Judd, a biologist, and Graham A.
Judd, an artist, beloved the “Lord in the Rings” cycle together, “immersed in Center-earth … transported into a
wondrous land.” But in FLORA OF MIDDLE-EARTH: Crops of J. R. R. Tolkien’s Legendarium (Oxford, $34.ninety five),
the Judds make the situation that these tales provide a ton much more than an escape from truth. As an
alternative, they’re intended to possess an effect on “how we communicate with Others nowadays and with your
complete planet in which we live — such as the landscapes of our purely organic natural atmosphere.”
What follows is de facto an exhaustive accounting on the trees, shrubs, herbs in addition to other vegetation in
Tolkien’s Heart-earth — the crops of our ecosystem and folks, very like the White Trees of Gondor, around the
elven natural environment. Tolkien was a author who confessed to remaining “Significantly in appreciate with
vegetation and more than all trees”; the Judds Be aware that vegetation appear on basically Each and every and
each website website page of “The Hobbit” and “The Lord inside the Rings.” I learned myself transported by their
discussion of “plant communities, as altered by hobbits, individuals, elves or angelic beings.” Those individuals
Hobbits ended up “superb agriculturalists,” expanding hemp for its fiber, keeping lawns and gardens and battling
weeds. Get heed, ye superb corporation polluters of now, lest you immediate us for your gates in the defiled land
of Mordor. I’m While utilizing the more youthful Ent generally known as Quickbeam, who considers trees to get
“fantastic close friends with great and delicate voices.” This volume, with its handsome and haunting woodcuts, is
best possible appreciated in compact doses. It’s heady issues, alternatively concentrated. Yet it manufactured me
blow the dust off my duplicate of “The Silmarillion” and include it to my stash of Winter season reading through.
Obtain your head into your clouds with AERIAL GEOLOGY: A Remarkable-Altitude Tour of North The us’s Amazing
Volcanoes, Canyons, Glaciers, Lakes, Craters and Peaks (Timber, $29.ninety 5). What improved technique to
introduce geology to any unwilling science student than a e-book filled with
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/buy weed online uk remarkable “who realized?” situations. Luckily for us, The
author and mountaineer (and, correctly lots of, resident of huge Sky, Mont.) Mary Caperton Morton understands.
Just acquire In the normal splendors with the check out from an airplane window: This generously photographed
amount even offers flight variations which will reveal our earthly treasures.
The Earth’s most significant piedmont glacier, Alaska’s Malaspina — that's, undoubtedly, shrinking as our earth
dangerously warms — stays so hefty “the underside has sunk basically 1,000 toes under sea volume.” The Teton
Range in Wyoming is “North The United states of america’s youngest mountain array, crafted from a number of
the continent’s oldest rocks.” 3-hundred-million-calendar year-aged seafloor fossils were being introduced
towards the ground by uplift and erosion in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. And The brand new River Gorge in
West Virginia is without doubt one of the handful of north-flowing waterways in North The us. The two hundred-
million-twelve months-former sandstone at Canyon de Chelly in Arizona generally is a sacred Indigenous
American web site. A steep path every one of the way right down to the canyon flooring requires you to the White
Household Spoil, witness to your brutal episode in the united states’s nineteenth-century qualifications.
Seem proper down to earth and head for The good Mountaineering TRAILS OF The planet (Rizzoli, $fifty), that
includes seventy five,000 miles of trekking on six continents. Introduced to us by Karen Berger, obtaining an
guideline out of your estimable American Climbing Present day Modern society, this quantity provides several
lifetimes of bucket lists. Individuals that would want to adhere around home could stop via the Appalachian Trail,
3. with its “fatigued mountains, worn down by time”; what it lacks in grandeur, it will make up for with “a novel
choice of landscapes, a couple of of which take place to get uncovered nowhere else.” For all People seeking a
brain-meld with Bilbo Baggins, or In any case a troublesome hike, take into account Te Araroa in New Zealand,
One of many more “geothermically Lively internet sites in the world.”
In many years past, Robert Llewellyn has blown our minds Although using the indelibly in depth shots in
“Observing Trees,” “Seeing Bouquets” and “Looking at Seeds.” Throughout the Residing FOREST: A visual Journey
Into your guts in the Woods (Timber, $forty), he has teamed up with Joan Maloof, the founder and director of
one's Old-Progress Forest Network, to see inside the thriller and magic of our woodlands. Considerably much too
usually, we think about without any thing to consider what their preface calls the “skinny and exquisite membrane”
which is our biosphere.
Llewellyn and Maloof flip our gazes up into your forest Deal with, exactly where we learn tasteful herons and
snazzy bluebirds in flight. We peer into your eyes of eagles, which will see for miles, and shock, combined with the
authors, no matter irrespective of whether trees are fragile to starlight. As Llewellyn and Maloof remind us, trees
are “the lungs in the land,” and so they’ve been woefully underappreciated; they’re the perfect system We all know
of to suck up the pollution that’s warming your entire Earth.
Llewellyn also reminds us within the sheer magnificence of our environment as he catches the fetal curl of the leaf
in midfall. Among the most alluring of his illustrations or photos will be the golden portraits of larval salamanders.
But there’s not greater than sufficient here about insects: I hope that should be regarded a future task, a single
which’s sorely sought after. We aren’t executing Pretty much much more than plenty of to safeguard our fellow
creatures, if rooted or roaming. And we've been unsuccessful to do so at our personalized peril.
THE TREES OF NORTH The us (Abbeville, $49.ninety five) options, for The 1st time in just one quantity, the
botanical engravings of André and François-André Michaux, along with other treasures held through the
renowned assortment with the Large apple Botanical Back garden’s Mertz Library. Its director, Susan Fraser,
describes the arrival, in 1785, of the father-son crew in New Jersey, after which you'll in Charleston, wherever they
propagated trees for export to France. Alas, Marie-Antoinette neglected her saplings (amid other concerns) and
declined to present additional funding, For that reason the staff members, inside of an motivated minor little bit of
promoting, Completely ready engravings from drawings by Pierre-Joseph Redouté plus some Many others. “The
North American Sylva” was afterwards revised with the English naturalist Thomas Nuttall. This volume’s handsome
plates perform forthright, in-depth drawings; chances are you'll Pretty much truly feel the sheen over the acorns in
the cork oak or the shaggy surface area with the Bristlecone fir.
And who, who, who's all-around inside the forests with us following we linger previously dusk? The owls, By
natural means. For a number of yrs, I’ve been endeavoring to proven eyes in excess of the owls with the trees
close to my dwelling, to no avail. Superb horned duets wake me away from a audio rest. Once in a while I'm
capable to’t resist tipping my head back again once more and joining inside the phone calls. Having said that the
owls keep on being elusive.
So thanks, David Tipling, on your sumptuous, endearing and terrifying illustrations or photos of this sort of
uncanny creatures with the ENIGMA From the OWL: An Illustrated Normal Historic earlier (Yale University, $40).
And Mike Unwin’s authoritative descriptions with the owl means of existence are intriguing. When not hunting
(snakes, frogs and voles hold from their beaks), they preen adorably, peer from nest holes with the trunks of trees
or plunge due to snow in pursuit of prey. They have these incredible round faces, with disks regarding their eyes
that purpose http://www.bbc.co.uk/search?q=buy weed online uk like satellite dishes to seize and immediate an
astonishing range of appear to be for his or her ears. And other people eyes! The golden orbs underneath the
furrowed brow of The good horned owl are mesmerizing. If I could, I’d fly absent having a parliament of owls.
Within the interim, I keep earthbound, but which includes its pleasures too. Apples, To begin with. Each and every
autumn, I haunt regional orchards, desperate to make your mind up bushels of my incredibly possess. And yearly
4. gives excess types, so I’m gonna proceed to maintain a duplicate of APPLES (Countryman, $eighteen.ninety 5), by
Roger Yepsen, in my glove compartment currently being a reference. His wonderful watercolors are a lot of to
cause any particular person’s munchies. In these internet pages, we explore the Macoun “just doesn’t sing if
picked just before … late September or Oct” Which Pink Woman received’t modify to mush inside of a pie. Yepsen
warns that even bigger apples mature far more instantly, Therefore if you choose for them in the grocery store
their firmness and texture are more http://edition.cnn.com/search/?text=buy weed online uk likely to be “on how
out.” And he statements never to trouble Together with the “corky” brown texture concerning the pores and skin
of selected types due to the fact “russets are generally spicier and also have way more character when compared
to the prevalent apple.”
You by no means know what is going to give an individual a hankering to back again backyard. Only one youthful
male of my acquaintance, who doesn’t very like to obtain Filth beneath his fingernails, has started to become
enamored of succulents. And it appears that evidently they’re the stylish vegetation of the design earth proper this
instant. The primly tasteful PRICK (Mitchell Beazley, $19.ninety 9), by Gynelle Leon, offers practical advice on
deciding on, styling and caring for cactuses and succulents — Together with the emphasis on styling. Every single
and each plant With this primer is shown nested in a straightforward pot, usually banded having a thoroughly
clear white stripe. Even though the pricks in their spines will harass, as that is definitely their mom nature,
someway the quite presentation would make The entire enterprise feel neatly workable in buy marijuana online uk
its place to messy, supplying a comforting illusion of Management towards the neophyte. But just keep out right
until that prickly pear outgrows its stylish crib.
Speaking of elegant, does the Bay Region now preserve the ideal concentration of creatively refined gardens
within the region? It would seem so, judging Together with the charming photos of Marion Brenner in Non-public
GARDENS While using the BAY Room (Monacelli, $60). The challenging-Functioning workforce of Susan Lowry and
Nancy Berner has Formerly posted guides about New Jersey and Hudson Valley gardens; this volume is
particularly fulfilling in its breadth and assortment. Admire the looser, bigger interpretation of Japanese aesthetics
inside the courtyard back garden overlooking San Francisco or perhaps the dreamy light filtering from the historic
trees in the St. Eden Back yard in near proximity to Oakville, with its Light grey mounds of olive, lavender and
teucrium — a small amount of Provence. The pool across the Berggruen home goes suitable into my “aspiration
file.” An artful moss selection, improbably displayed in packing containers and on logs, graces a porch in Glen
Park, whilst metal and concrete planters snake up a cliff on Telegraph Hill to obtain a staggering see. Californians
attract inspiration from in the globe — but then they are doing their unique challenge, to dazzling affect.
Just just in case this seems to become your Wintertime season of discontent, fan the flames of the glue gun, unfurl
the crepe paper and switch on on the Great Artwork OF PAPER Bouquets (Watson-Guptill, $20 5). I kid you not:
Tiffanie Turner’s creations are exquisite. Her D.I.Y. Advice for handmade marigolds, roses, dianthus and daffodils

cravings tumble across the indica-sativa scale; I Individually wouldn’t Do this in the home. But I'll forever admire
the angelic creatures amid us who will be able to pull poppies outside of paper. They’re Virtually as miraculous as
These beauties we so with any luck , coax out from the soil, era just immediately after technology, via several extra
summers of affection.
