The Llaima Volcano is located in the La Araucanía Region of Chile, stands at 3,215 meters tall, and has erupted 23 times with its most recent eruption in 1994. In 2008, the volcano erupted at 18:20, causing chaos in the nearby city as buildings burned and large flames erupted in parks. Survivors reported seeing the destruction of the city by 19:00. The Red Cross set up a camp for survivors later that night at 21:30. The next day, survivors fled to the nearest city. The Llaima has also erupted alongside other volcanoes in the region in 1640, 1750, 1765, and 1790.
