computer to another without your knowledge and runs against your wishes. All computer
viruses are man-made. They insert themselves into host programs and propagate when the
infected program gets executed.
Effects of Virus :-
 It can quickly use all available memory and bring the system to a halt.
 It can result in Modification of data
 It can erase your complete Hard drive
 It can show annoying messages on your computer screen.
Virus is actually a Malware like other malwares, which include -
 Computer worms
 Trojan horse
 Spyware
 Zombies
2. DVD - Digital Video Disk or Digital Versatile Disc
Digital Versatile Disc, or commonly known as Digital Video Disk is an optical disc storage
media format that can be used for storing high capacity data like high quality movies and
videos and even an operating system. It was developed in 1995 by 4 companies namely :
Philips, Panasonic, Sony and Toshiba.
A DVD is available in many variants, including :
4.7 GB (single-sided, single-layer)
8.5–8.7 GB (single-sided, double-layer)
9.4 GB (double-sided, single-layer)
17.08 GB (double-sided, double-layer)
Physical Dimension of a DVD
A Digital Video Disk comes in 2 dimensions : 12 cm (120 mm) and 8 cm (80 mm) diameter
sizes. 120 mm is the most commonly used dimension for storing Movies, Operating systems
and large software. 80 mm size is suitable for small devices like a video camera.
3. What is the full form of COMPUTER ?
Computer – Commonly Operated Machine ParticularlyUsed for Technology Education
and Research
A computer is a general purpose device that can be programmed to carry out a finite set of
arithmetic or logical operations. It can take instructions — often known as programs, and
execute them.
It can be of many types including desktop computers, laptops, notebooks and tablet. The
most common parts of a computer are Random access memory(RAM), a processor (CPU)
and a set of registers.
4. USB - Universal Serial Bus
USB is an external bus standard that supports data transfer & supply electric power between
peripheral devices such as keyboards, mouse, printers, portable media players and disk
drives.
Initial Development - In 1994, Microsoft, Compaq, Intel, DEC, IBM, NEC and Nortel, formed
a group and started development of Universal Serial Bus.
Universal Serial Bus devices can be used across multiple platforms including Windows, Mac
and Linux. Connecting a Universal Serial Bus device to a computer is simple - just insert the
Universal Serial Bus connector into your system and it will automatically detect it and starts
working.
The most widely and commonly used USB device is Universal Serial Bus Drive. Unlike most
removable drives, it does not require rebooting after it gets attached.
5. What is the Full Form of WWW ?
WWW - World Wide Web
The World Wide Web consists of all the Web sites connected to the Internet worldwide that
access Web content. With a web browser, one can view web pages that may contain text,
images and other multimedia and navigate between them by using hyperlinks.
There are several Web browsers that make it easy to access the World Wide Web (WWW).
Name of some of them are :-
 Google Chrome
 Mozilla Firefox
 Netscape Navigator and Netscape Communicator
 Microsoft's Internet Explorer
 Opera, for mobile as well as for PC
 Safari, for MAC system
Browsers are also used in Mobile devices to access content from World Wide Web.
The term/name WWW is often mistakenly used as a synonym for the Internet itself, but the
Web is actually something that is available via the Internet, just like e-mail and many other
Internet services.
6. What is the Full Form of JPEG ?
JPEG or JPG - Joint Photographic Experts Group
Joint Photographic Experts Group is a standard method of compressing graphic images. It is
a lossy compression technique which means, some information is lost while compression.
File size can be reduced upto 5% of the actual size with the loss of some details.
It is mostly used for storing and sending photographs on the Internet, due to its great
compression technique. It is also referred to its file extension, i.e. JPG. JPEG an JPG both
refers to the same thing.
Some facts about JPEG :
 It supports a maximum image size of 65535×65535
 It was developed by the Joint Photographic Experts Group
 File extensions of Joint Photographic Experts Group are : .jpeg, .jpg, .jfif, .jpe, .jif
 JPEG file can be converted to many formats
 It compresses an image into a stream of bytes and decompressed back into an image.
7. VLC - VideoLAN Client
VLC media player is an open source cross-platform media player that supports a wide
variety of file formats. It was first released in 2001 by the VideoLAN project. The player is
able to stream over computer network and to transcode multimedia files. It supports wide
variety of operating systems including: Windows, iOS, Linux, Android, Solaris, etc.
VLC supports wide range of file formats including: Audio formats (mp3, AAC, AC3,
RealAudio, WMV), Video Format (AVI, FLV, QuickTime File Format, MP4, WAV, MPEG,
WMV) and Subtitles (DVD-Video, SVCD, DVB, MPEG-4 Timed Text, Text file, etc.)
