STOP CUTTING CORNERS

Editor's Notes
Does anyone have an example of Cutting Corners? Not a trick its a trap.
Horse and carriage
I don’t have it trademarked yet, but yes that is my hand. A table saw kickback threw a piece of wood exactly this size through my hand. 3 fingers and my thumb were amputated.

Born & raised in rural SK. Dad had a construction company and farmed. Started working at $2. At 12 sporting a shiner from a run in with a jackal.
Perhaps your in more danger away from work? Injuries at home have a significant impact on your workplace. Dull chainsaw … sabre saw, axe head, 16 lbs sledge hammer. Are you scared of a piece of wood this big? @ 120 km/h?
Big decisions like getting a job, University, getting married. Small decision like running a red light. Talk with your neighbour about a small decision with big impact.

working around general farm machinery / agricultural chemical / equipment / tools / truck and trailer / hauling equipment (R&D Students), going onto someone else’s work site (like what sales students might do when visiting retails / customers or farms or R&D students visiting farms or other research sites) and they will be doing a lot of driving.
It takes time to develop your skills ... I got this picture off the internet.
Anyone ever done kitchen renos?
Only picture I took on Nov 22 ... The irony still impacts me. Something was there, but now its gone.
Decision to use table saw not jigsaw or bandsaw based on time, not safety. Detail exact steps of cut, thoughts, pain, Noooo!!
Impacted more than just me. Noah helping me, 911 call, First Responders. Who needs the help here? That be ... How you feeling? Stupid I feel like bashing my head through this wall.
Bone or wood, tools don’t care.
This was not a “Freak Accident” it was preventable.
The warning is right in the owner’s manual. Is your warning in a procedure manual?
No way, that was just too easy. I want a “Do-over”. I watch TLC ... They can put me back together.
Men associate this with pain. Pain is not the same for everyone. Chipped tooth. Abscessed tooth. Hand.
Rate your pain ... 5
Hands are high sensory, many nerve endings with a lot of functionality.
Pain where there was no longer a finger.
Hand, confidence, future? Thumb.
I didn’t stay with this thought for very long. I was well aware that I did something that caused this. Kylie was innocent ... Wrong place at the wrong time.
I will never be the same. Every person I meet when I shake their hand they’ll think “What the heck did you do?”
Never injured before. Where will money come from? How long will I be off? Had a client reception the following Friday ... Thought I would still go. Will I still be able to do things?
Felt like I could breakdown at any second. Range of emotion.
Coldest winter I can remember. Had to stay inside because of hand sensitivity.
Entire family was held hostage by the injury.
Difficult to see past your situation. Who would ever use dismemberment insurance?
I turned on myself. I did this to me. Another patient focused on someone else.
Realize what you still have, what you can still do, count them as victories. Wascana Rehab. Focus on what you have, not on what you’ve lost.
There are many things in life that are tough ... You have to press in. Don’t give up hope.
New territory for me. Didn’t want to quash anyone’s blessing ... Just accept it. Healthcare, surgery, hand clinic at the rehab.
Family, friends, co-workers.
Sometimes you just have to laugh ... Like when you accidently give someone the finger.
Shadow puppets. Foam Fingers ... I’m with Stupid.
Love and support of family is essential.
Almost as painful as original injury, but you have to undergo the pain daily to begin to see improvement. Bend finger in.
Truman Duncan, known as “The Miracle Man”, was run over by a train and lost all of his left leg and most of his right leg, parts of his pelvis and a kidney. Truman stated that he realized this was a brand new start … he was a completely new person and had to remove the expectations of the “old man” on his new body. He has gone on to do much more than just survive this horrific ordeal he has redefined himself.
You may be able to do everything you used to do, but you may have to adapt how you do them.
