The Canadian auto market saw challenging sales in the third quarter of 2016, with July, August and September down year-over-year, but sales remain up 3% for the year-to-date. Some manufacturers like Jaguar (+95%), Volvo (+32%) and Land Rover (+29%) saw major sales increases, while VW (-14%) and Acura (-6%) saw declines. The best selling vehicles were pickup trucks like the Ford F-150, and SUVs/CUVs like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V dominated sales. Overall 2016 sales nearing 2 million vehicles would be a remarkable increase after a record 2015, and continued availability of financing and leasing is power
2. Still Ahead
Last year was a record, and
this year is ahead by 3%
YTD.
Yes…the 3rd quarter was
challenging.
July: – 2.5%
August: – 2.0%
September: – 0.5%
But…still ahead by 3 points.
3. Peak Auto
Is it peak auto time in
Canada?
It would be remarkable to hit
the 2 Million mark.
Yes…it is hovering infinitely
close to peak auto for the
Canadian market.
4. Money
All forms of free flowing
money continues to power
the Canadian market.
Finance, longer terms,
leasing, rolling over
deficiencies.
Its all good to move iron, and
reinforce the mobility model.
5. Sky Is The Limit
A bunch of folks on the
journey to “peak auto” remain
on the vector that the sky is
the limit.
Is it wiser to move more iron
or to make more money?
In the meantime reaching the
sky in 2016 is on everyone’s
radar.
7. Who Is Behind
VW: - 14%
Acura: - 6%
Mazda: - 5%
FCA: - 4%
At the three quarter point the
market is up by 3%.
FCA is a surprise.
8. Plateau
Nearing the plateau with
smaller gains this year.
Or is it the plateau?
Do you continue reaching for
the sky, or acknowledge the
plateau?
Recalibrate the strategies?

New Entrants Did You Know
13. OUR THOUGHTS
AT THE THREE QUARTER OF 2016
• 2 Million would be cool, overly ambitious, an increase after a record breaking 2015 is
remarkable.
• Free flowing money, be it finance or lease continues to power sales. Its an appreciable
profit opportunity for the providers of financial services.
• Ford what can you say about the F150…WOW.
• Utilities by now we all know the story, gaining more share.
• Will the new Canadian mortgage rules impact auto sales?
• Huge numbers especially with Alberta in the doldrums.
• Mobility continues to be the Canadian model.
• The 4th Quarter will be fascinating, revealing, momentous.
