Not an original idea – Ann Arbor – looking for something to heal our village my dream for our village has always been a place with happy prosperous merchants supportive of each other – a village full of tourists, flowers, music with an image of fun – into my head popped the idea of the Ann Arbor Fairy Doors Talk about ann arbor – It was about that time that Danielle Eulitt became interested in the project and joined with me - She has been the voice of reason and without her help, I would never have been able to do what we have done.
And so, we set forth . . . . . With a three pronged goal – the first being to bring smiles and fun – to residents and merchants alike .We have already brought smiles to the village – two workshops – people who don’t usually interact
Our send goal was to bring tourists back to the village – our tourists have become almost non – existent We think this project is capable of bring tourists back to our village – resulting in an economic impact not only for our village but for the city – ripple effect –
And our third goal was to realize the dream of a suportive environment for merchants and residents . . . .Again , prosperous merchants become happy merchants resulting in economic and satisfaction benefits for everyone Our three goals now seem much closer as I am happy to announce that the Doors of MainStrasse Village has partnered with AE Doors of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky
And so – this is a sample door – they come unfinished with doors that open and close Anyone can order a door – this is how they come – if anyone is interested, just contact me
And here we have the after Amazed at the creativity we have in our village -
I feel that the response has been overwhelming -
Brochure to advertise doors with a map indicating locations of the doors – it will be a bit like a scavenger hunt
Tucked away in gardens or on buildings – some are located inside the business
Each door with a four line story
Pics on the blog with links back to the business whose door it is
Fantasy Fest is the event where we welcome the wee fairy folk who have moved to our village – When Natalie Bowers approached us about being a part of full spectrum, it really gave our Fantasy Fest momentum! Showcasing businesses and artists makes our relationship with full spectrum a good fit – for us dove tailing with full spectrum was the piece d’resistance and we are just thrilled to be a part of this exciting event – Full Spectrum target market for this event is over 700,000 people in the greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area We anticipate 3,000 to 5,000 people to be in covington for the weekend of Suburban sprawl
Partnering with Full Spectrum has given us the momentum to move toward more visible exposure and increased recognition. It has helped to create a mutually supportive environment for businesses, residents, artists and patrons. The sub-urban sprawl weekend is a great fit for fantasy fest as it adds another dimension to the walkability of Covington – rediscovering areas of covington that are historical while having fun with the fairy doors. Create a mutually supportive environment for businesses, residents, artists and patrons.
Some exciting vendors who will be participating - Vendors who have not been in our village festivals previously – a vendor from Nashville Tennesee, a vendor who participates in the fairy festival in Eugene Oregon which is one of the largest festivals in the country
Cincinnati drumming circle, Pharoahs drummers, captain jack picked brothers, tululah and her dance troupe – brian gill and his cool critters
Mayan ruins – greg harper – a well known musician in the cinti area, and our own Michael sylvester with the river city string band
Led by a horse drawn carriage – musicians and entertainers – but most importantly – everyone is invited to walk in the parade – we want lots of children and are contacting local institutions to invite them to bring groups of children to participate in the parade.
They are no longer an art gallery but they are a fabulous venue for events of all types, weddings, parties, musical events
At some point, we decided that we really needed to involve children in the creative process of the project and so we partnered with baker hunt to have their children do the fairy windows of mainstrasse village.
Our goal was to raise money for a scholarship program for kids who are unable to attend classes at baker hunt due to financial limitations. We are so grateful to Judy Sanders, Rosemary Topie and Charlotte Reed who stepped up to the plate to help. They have spent the summer working with the children to create fantastic fairy windows!
This scholarship program is especially important at a time when the schools are cutting back on the arts offerings.
So these adorable fairy windows will be available for purchase at the Gala. We are asking for patrons to sponsor a window which would then be auctioned with their name attached
There will also be a bucket auction where the patron can purchase tickets to be placed in a bucket and winners will be drawn.
Barbara – Mr. Elf – also the auctioneer for the event – Barbara is a covington resident – she has made many appearances on tri state tv and radio performed at the International Ventriloquiests convention, keynote speaker
Our very own Michael Sylvester featuring the Mountain dulcimer which provides the mysterious, modal sound of the bagpipes will be playing traditional folk songs from Scotland the Brave, Wildwood Flower, and My Old Kentucky Home. Other details of the Gala are still being finalized but it promises to be a great evening for all!
