Nursing Research Article Review Guidelines
Assignment: Choose a pediatric nursing topic that interests you or something that you have
observed in your clinical experience relating to patient care. Do a literature search on this
topic, in the library or on the Internet. Find a peer-reviewed nursing practice research
article on your subject. This means the article is written by nurses, describing an actual
research study that they performed, and has been published in a peer-reviewed nursing
journal.
Note: You are looking for articles written by nurses who performed their own research
study. Look for an Abstract at the beginning of the article. It should list a Purpose, Study
Design/Methodology, Description of Subjects, Results, Conclusions, and Nursing
Implications.
An example:
Beware of articles called Literature Review or Concept Analysis. These will not have the
Abstract as described because the authors have not done a research study of their own.
Instead, they are reviewing and summarizing a number of research projects done by other
people. Articles of this type will not work for this paper.
