How does poetry stimulate the imagination? In this first assignment you will
examine its role in the development of appreciation in the natural world and in
developing imagination in children.
You have 2 options this Week 1:
Option 1
Select 3 poems from among those read this week - one in each of the following

· How these poems can instill an appreciation for animals and the natural world
in children

result in a major point deduction. You should have a total of 6 sources on the
required reference page (3 poems from the Project Gutenberg list, 2 articles from
University Library Readings, and textbook from chapter 1).

ENG 295 CL Wk 2 - Picture Books,Chap Books& Alphabooks
This week's focus is on foundations in children's literature. Alphabets, chapbooks,
and picture books are staples of children's literature. You will identify key
attributes of these different genres and explore their significance to the study of
children's literature. Explain the importance of illustration in these books, which is
a key to these genres.
Create a 8- to 10-slide presentation with speaker notes where
· Explain the importance of illustration in literature for children.
· Include at least 2 pictures from the readings this week and cite them
properly.
· Address examples from 3 stories among our required Gutenberg Project
readings this week and use the 2 reserve readings (University Library Readings)
and the textbook (at least once) for information required below.

Domestic fiction is that group of work that is centered on real life. Children read
fictional stories but can easily picture themselves in that scene or performing those
tasks. These works of domestic fiction help children develop emotional maturity and a
sense of self-worth starting with identifying with their parents and family.
6. Review 2 fiction stories from this week's assigned or optional readings. You may
choose any two from this week.

In Week 5, you will more deeply examine the value of children's literature as a tool
of moral and ethical development, as well as the opportunity to study issues in
children's literature. There are several substantial issues in children's literature
that greatly affect the teaching and exposure of children's literature. It is important
to understand these issues when looking at the value of teaching the genre of
children's literature.
Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper that includes the following:
A description of the value of teaching children's literature as a tool of moral and
ethical development in children, using examples from the course readings.
Choose 2-3 topics below to discuss the moral and ethical development in children
and how CL can impact the readers:
