and story pitches. Allows practical
application in how to write a pitch and outline a news story.

• Timeliness
• Significance/Importance
• Proximity (Location)
• Prominence
• Human Interest/Relevance
ASSIGNMENT

PART II: STORY PITCH
In the rundown order list each slug (1-5) then 3-4 sentences
explaining why each story is newsworthy.
Each story can qualify under one, or multiple reasons a story is
newsworthy, explain each choice. To
support the reason, use class discussions, ethical considerations,
AP Stylebook, lecture notes to build
your case for why this story makes the rundown and why it is in
the order placement on the rundown.
The more specific the better.
EX:
SLUG 1: Great Story
PITCH: Great Story is in the newscast because it is timely, it is
on Stetson’s campus so checks the
proximity box and it is important to every student. Great Story
leads the rundown because in the class
lecture, we discussed the more people impacted or involved in
4. our community, the higher placement for
the story. 1-3 more sentences supporting Great Story.
