The document discusses the advantages of an Intelligent Motor Control Centre (IMCC) over a traditional MCC. An IMCC uses automation technologies like PLCs, HMIs, and SIMOCODs to allow for easier motor protection setting changes, improved parameter monitoring, fault/trip histories, and communication over a single Profibus cable. It also describes some common problems that can occur with routine IMCC operations and provides an overview of how the SIMOCOD software is used to configure feeders from an HMI.
2. IMCC :Intelligent Motor Control Centre
Why called intelligent
Because it works on the basis of fully
AUTOMATION
Automation Example :
PLC,DCS,HMI,SIMOCOD,HMI,Other Software
3. • HMI : Human Machine Interface
• PLC : Programmable Logic Control
• DCS : Distributed Control System
• SCADA : Supervisory Control And Data Aqistion
• SIMOCOD:
4. Advantages of IMCC Without IMCC
1)Only single cable(Profibus) is used for
communication with PLC/DCS for all feeders in MCC.
1)One feeder requires one cable for communication
with PLC/DCS
2)Motor protection settings can be easily inserted and
changed accordingly.
2)Hard to set motor protection settings. Also limited
range is available.
3)Parameters can be easily monitored when motor is
ON.
3)Limited parameter can be monitored.
4)Fault/Trip/Warning/Trip history is available. Hence
chances of motor failure will be less.
4)No history is available.
5)Easy to find whether the problem is from Inst. Side
or Elect. Side.
5)Difficult to decide whether the problem is from Inst.
Side or Elect. Side.
6)In case of replacement of motor with different
ratings, the programcan be easily changed/copied
from another feeder instead of changing relay.
6)Relay replacement, CT replacement or parameter
changing is required which is very difficult and time
consuming.
7)In case of S/D starters no timer is required. It is
inbuilt in SMOCOD and it will take setting accordingly
7)Timer is required for S/D starter.
5. What is SIMOCOD ???
• SIMOCOD is a multifunction device which mainly used for monitoring,
protection of equipment and communication.
• It has innumerable nos. of applications in the field of Electrical &
Instrument.
Types of SIMOCOD…
1) ES
2) Pro C
3) Pro V
6. Problems that may occur during routine
operation
1) Motor is not getting started in Auto or Manual Mode
2) Motor is not getting started from DCS
3) ON trip of motor
4) Communication bus failure
5) Motor parameters feedback is not visible at DCS
6) Loss of any feeder parameters from SIMOCOD
7. How to use software ???
ON HMI Menu Open Online Available list
Select req. feeder Detection of all SIMOCOD
Do changes accordingly Download Upload
8. SIMOCOD :-
AUX SUPPLY
PC INTERFACE SLOT
CONNECTION FOR I/P FEEDBACK
CONNECTION FOR
PROFIBUS CABLE
