5. O’ Neill, 1991 argued He believed that there
is no wrong with old-fashioned teacher
fronting, and it seems to work, and always
has worked because students feel more
comfortable with it.
6. Controller
Organizer
Teacher takes the rolls, tell students things, organize drills,
read aloud, and in various other ways exemplify the
qualities of a teacher-fronted classroom.
To organize students to do various activities. Teachers
often give students information, telling them how they
are going to do the activity, putting them into pairs or
groups and finally closing things down when it is time to
stop working.
7. Assessor
To give indication to students whether or not they are
getting their English right. It can be by offering the
feedback and correction and grading students in various
ways.
Prompter
When the students do role-play activity, then they lose the thread of what is
going on or lost for words, what the teachers need to do?
Teacher can help but doesn’t to take a charge, so teacher can be keen to
encourage the students think creatively rather than have them hang on our
every word.
8. Participant
It is so good if teacher takes part in a discussion because we can
enliven from the inside instead of always having prompt or organize
from outside the group. The benefit of this role is students can
enjoy having the teacher with them, and the teacher can enjoy
acting as participants that acting as resource.
Resource
Students need their teacher as a source. Teacher can give a guidance where
students can go to find the information as the answer for that such question.
9. Tutor
Acting as a tutor is when we are combining the roles of prompter and
resource by pointing students in directions they have not yet thought of
taking. As a tutor, teacher can go around the class and staying briefly with a
particular group or individuals, offer the short general guidance.
Observer
Teacher need to observe what students do especially in oral communicative
activities, so that we can give the useful feedback. When observing students,
we should be careful not to be too intrusive by hanging on.
10. There are some things that we must avoid while doing observation, such as:
• Do not to be too intrusive by hanging on their every word
• Do not get too close to them
• Do not officiously writing things down all the time. We should avoid
drawing attention to ourselves since to do so may well distract them from
the task they are involved in.
It is important to do:
• Have column not only for what students get wrong, but also what they do
right.
Observation has purposes such as:
• To judge the success of the different materials and activities, so it can help
to make changes in the future
