• Section 2 (68) – Definition of Job Work
“job work” means any treatment or process undertaken by a person on goods belonging to another registered
person and the expression “job worker” shall be construed accordingly.
Thus Job work means undertaking any treatment or process by a person on goods belonging to another registered
taxable person. The person who is treating or processing the goods belonging to other person is called ‘job worker’
and the person to whom the goods belong is called ‘principal’.
• Section 2 (88) – Definition of Principal
“principal” means a person on whose behalf an agent carries on the business of supply or receipt of goods or
services or both.
• Job Work has been classified as a Service in GST as per Clause 3 of Schedule II
It says, “Any Treatment or Process which is applied to another person’s Goods is a supply of Services”

of inputs/capital goods shall lie with
the “principal”. (So the principal is
responsible for keeping proper
accounts for goods sent on job work)

without bringing them to his
premises and can still avail the credit
of tax paid on such inputs or capital
goods.

Sec 143
The Principal may, under intimation and
subject to such conditions, as prescribed, send
any input/capital goods without payment of
tax to a job worker or a job work and from
there subsequently send to another job worker
and likewise.
If INPUTS or CAPITAL GOODS are not received
back by principal or are not supplied within a
period of one year or three years of being sent
out It shall be deemed that such inputs or
capital goods had been supplied to Job Worker
on the day when the said inputs/Capital Goods
were sent out

• The inputs or capital goods shall be sent to the job worker under the cover of a delivery challan
issued by the Principal
• The Delivery challan shall be issued even for the inputs or capital goods sent directly to the job
worker. The Delivery challan shall contain the details specified in Rule 10 of Invoice Rules
• The Delivery challan will contain the complete details of the inputs or capital goods like place
of supply of Job worker, HSN Code of the Material, Address of the Job worker etc
• No GST will be computed at Delivery Challan
• Delivery Challan should be serially numbered and it should be unique controlled value
• Delivery challans must be prepared in triplicate. The original copy must be marked as ORIGINAL
FOR CONSIGNEE. The duplicate copy must be marked as DUPLICATE FOR TRANSPORTER. The
triplicate copy must be marked as TRIPLICATE FOR CONSIGNER.

ITC Under Job Work (Sec 19)

• The principal is allowed to take input tax credit on inputs/capital goods sent to a job
worker for job work
• ITC is allowed even if the inputs/capital goods are directly sent to the job worker for a
job work without their being first brought to his place of business
• In case the inputs/capital goods sent for job work are not received back by the
“principal” or not supplied from job worker’s place of business within one year/three
years, it shall be deemed that such inputs/capital goods had been supplied by the
principal to job worker on the date when the said inputs were sent out
• The period of one/three years shall be counted from the date of receipt of
inputs/capital goods by the job worker.

Core Application Functional flow
• Standard Oracle Application support Outside Procession Operation in
Oracle Work in Process (WIP) module ,You will be able to monitor the
movement of goods to the sub-contractor in Oracle Financial Of India
Module
• Bill of Material needs to be created for the assembly in BOM module and a
Job should be created for the Assembly on Oracle Work in Process (WIP)
module.
• When the Job is released and component is moved to queue of OSP
operation, a requisition gets created in Purchasing module. Submit
Requisition import to create the Requisition . Using requisition you can
create a Purchase Order using auto create and approve the PO. When you
receive material it is directly update in WIP Operations.
