3. Introduction
o Color also looks different in different
circumstances.
o As the day progresses, the natural light in the
room changes, season changes.
o The color you choose in your interior design
will impact the overall ambience and lighting.
o Beautiful colors and interior lighting can be
effectively introduced in an environment by
using the right electric illumination and proper
choice of paint colors.
4. Understanding Light
Sunlight:- Sunlight is the word used to describe light
from a visible sun; it is uni-directional and the light
itself contains the full color spectrum. Sunlight has
both a psysiological and physiological effect on human.
Daylight:- The term ‘Daylight’ describes the light that is
produced whenever the sun is above the horizon, but
takes no account of whether it is actually visible.
Artificial light:- In practical terms artificial light is
usually intended to do one of the following things:
To provide the sole means of illumination at night.
To augment the light provided by windows in order to
provide better modeling.
To provide light to compensate for poor natural lighting in
winter or in poor weather conditions.

6. Importance of lighting in Interior
Design
• Color Management:- The use of lighting can add to or subtract from the
overall colors of a room, or from only those surfaces the light is meant to
enhance. Darker colors make a room feel smaller and cramped, while light
colored walls do the opposite.
• Directional lighting:- Track lighting is the perfect example of positional
lighting. Recessed lighting can be used in floors and ceilings to create vertical
beams of light as opposed to an overall glow from central line fixtures hanging
from a ceiling.
7. Importance of lighting in Interior
Design
• Functionality:- Lighting needs to serve a purpose or it simply wastes
electricity. Wall lights add length and size, visually, to an entryway hall, as well
as light the way. Look into task-specific lighting for desks and other work areas
where functionality is more important than overall room illumination.
• Space:- Both natural and man-made lighting help with the illusion of space.
Natural lighting is preferred above man-made lighting because it shows off
colors better and adds to the visual space of a room by bouncing off reflective
surfaces.
9. Light creates its own impression on the people, not
only biological, but psychological impressions which
are subjective but common to majority of people.
Suppose an Interior, like that of a restaurant,
demands intimacy and pleasantness.
For pleasantness, warm color temperature light
sources and non-uniform layouts are important.
It means incandescent lamps should be employed.
And of course wall washer and accent lights have to
be employed to add to these points extra life and
glamour.
10. Color theory
The color wheel is all about mixing colors. Mix the
primary or base colors red, yellow, blue and you get the
secondary colors on the color wheel: orange, green, and
violet.
Mix those with a primary color, and you get the third
level of the color wheel, tertiary colors.
Those include red-orange, yellow-green, blue-green,
and blue-violet. The primary and secondary colors (with
the addition indigo) are also part of the visible
spectrum of light, or the “colors of rainbow.”
For designers and marketers, the challenge is in
balancing these complex roles that color plays to create
an attractive, effective design.
That’s where a basis understanding of color theory can
come in handy.
15. Color Psychology:-
Color is a powerful communication tool and can be
used to signal action, influence mood, and even
influence physiological reactions.
Certain colors have been associated with increased
blood pressure, increased metabolism, and
eyestrain.
Color is all around us. Whether we realize it or not,
it plays a big role in our everyday lives.
The meaning and symbolism we associate with
different colors are influenced a great deal by the
cultural and societal groups we identify with.
26. Conclusion
It shows the level of light and color combination in Interior
Design.
Light level is as important as the color rendering properties of a
lamp.
At high light levels, many non-monochromatic light sources will
render colors well, and at very low light levels no light source
can render colors well.
In many lighting applications, including residences, restaurants
and retail stores, good color characteristics are often
considered more important than lamp efficacy.
Lighting specifies consider the most important color
performance characteristics of a light source to be the color
appearance of the source.
The art of manipulating Natural and artificial light is critical to
get the exact room colors one wants.
Many home interior photos are taken using supplemental
lightning which affect how you see the interior color.
