He dreamt of becoming a fighter pilot, but could not
realise it since he secured the ninth position in the Indian
Air Force selection, when only eight slots were available.
. Dr. Kalam is a scholar of Thirukkural (a classic of
couplets or Kurals). In most of his speeches, he quotes
at least one kural.
6. BROUGHT UP IN MULTIRELIGIOUS
ENVIRONMENT
Although he was a Muslim, He used to read both
Bhagvad Gita and Quran, and along with that he was
expert in playing Saraswati and Veena.

Kalam was a vegetarian, and was very fond of his
mother’s cooked food, such as rice and sambar with
coconut chutney, vendhya kozhambu and puliyodare.

11. THE WAY HE SPEND HIS
SALARY
President earned his first wages at the age of 8 when he
started selling newspapers in his neighbourhood.
After becoming president of India, Kalam donated his
salaries and savings to a trust he had founded, called PURA
He said that after becoming India's president, he would be
looked after by the government till the end of his life, and so
he all his savings and salaries could be used for better things.

Kalam had asked, "What should we do to free our planet from
terrorism?" on Yahoo Answers, and received more than 30,000
answers.

14. APJ VS DEATH
In 2001, when he had boarded the helicopter from
Ranchi, on the way to Bokaro he was informed about
some issues with the helicopter’s rotor. Though, it was a
death alarm for the cockpit crew, but he composed
everyone with his signature smile and advised the two
pilots not to worry
15. THANK YOU CARDS
As humble and generous the man is, President Kalam is
known to sign his own thank you cards.
One instance is ,Naman Narain drew a sketch of Dr. Kalam
and sent it to the President. To his surprise, the President sent
him a thank you card, with a short handwritten message and
personalised with his signature.

17. PERSONAL LIFE
His personal and professional life was fully dedicated
to the nation, and was the first unmarried person to
become the President of India
Once he said "I was married to the missile." Kalam
dedicated his life for serving the nation.
18. PROPERTY
After Dr Kalam died in 2015, he had no other
property in his name other than his collection of books.
He never owned a television. His personal possessions
included his books, a veena, some articles of clothing, a
CD player and a laptop.
