2. INTRODUCTION TO IMPA
OBJECTIVE OF IMPA:

3. WHAT IS COVID-19?
An infectious disease caused by SARS-CoV-2. first
identified in Dec'19 in Wuhan, Hubei, China, and
has resulted in an ongoing pandemic. On 5
October, the WHO said that one in ten people
around the world (around 800 million) may have
been infected with COVIDâ19. out of total
7,800,000,000 population(rough est.)
As of 11 October 2020, 37 million cases have been
reported across 188 countries and territories
with more than 1.07 million deaths happened.
6. RISK FACTORS FOR COVID-19
COVID-19 patients with history of
Hypertension,
Obesity,
Diabetes,
Cardiovascular disease AND
Chronic lung disease, TB
Also, elderly patients in long-term care facilities, chronic
kidney disease patients, and cancer patients are not only at
risk for contracting the virus, but there is a significantly
increased risk of death among these groups of patients
7. Patients with raised blood pressure have a two-fold increased risk of dying from the
COVID-19 compared to patients without high blood pressure, according to new
research published in the European Heart Journal

8. Individual with overweight and obesity face a greater risk of severe consequences
from COVIDâ19, including hospitalization, intensive clinical care requirements
and death. A systematic review of the mechanistic pathways for COVIDâ19 and

9. DIABETES RISK IN COVID-19
⢠The pooled prevalence of DM was 9%. The
prevalence of DM in moderate patients with
covid was 7%. The prevalence of DM in severe
patients with covid was 17%. The prevalence
of DM in severe patients with covid was
significantly higher than that in moderate
patients.And risk of covid mortality is high in
DM2 patients.
