DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

Description of project : Raise awareness throughout
Island School of the cause and our work. Create and
sell a product successfully, make a profit which we
would then donate to the HKSF.
Goal: Our goal is to raise the awareness of Island
School students of the HKSF and what they do. We
would also like to get students involved with the
foundation whilst earning profit for product that we
can later donate to the foundation.
Client: The Hong Kong Shark foundation
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Aims: We aim to:
 • Make profit from products we will sell
 • Get more students involved with the HKSF (E.g. volunteering)
 • Get some donations from Island School and the general
   public
Objectives:
 • Produce and sell our product with at least 1,000$ earned
   through this and through donations
 • By the end of the project we hope to have at least 5 student
   volunteers for the HKSF
 • To have an HSSA (HKSF Student Shark Ambassador)
 • Make notice of our Project through posters around Discovery
   Bay advertising our sale.
AIM 1 EVALUATION
• Aim: Make profit from products we will sell
• Objective: Produce and sell our product with at least 1,000$ earned
   through this and through donations
• Success criteria: Many shirts have been ordered and lots of generous
   donations made.
Evaluation:
Strengths: In my promotional awareness project I produced a poster which
was posted all over Discovery Bay 2 weeks before the initial sale at the flea
market.
Weaknesses: I wanted to produce a more vivid and interactive poster that
would provide our audience with more information but when producing
and designing the poster, I realized how small the text would have to be in
relation in my design and decided just to add the logo and hopefully
people would be interested to visit their site and find out more.
Actions for the future: In the future I will have to manufacture a smaller
design/logo or organize my poster in a way that I can fit necessary
information that will encourage the target audience to have a look at the
HKSF and their work and make more possible donations.
AIM 2 EVALUATION
• Aim: Get more students involved with the HKSF (E.g. volunteering)
• Objective: By the end of the project we hope to have at least 5 student volunteers
   for the HKSF
• Success Criteria: We have recruited several student volunteers and nominated an
   ambassador from the sixth form.
Evaluation:
Strengths: Once educated on the HKSF and their cause students were very keen to
get involved. It was also a good indicator to us that our message and advertising
strategies did work and many more students and DB residents are aware of shark
conservation in Hong Kong and around the world.
Weaknesses: Most people weren’t convinced it was a worthy enough cause to
dedicate their time to. This shows us that we may not have stressed the severity of
shark finning and its impact on the food chain and environment.
Actions for the Future: In the future we would need to be extremely vivid and create
something that doesn’t attract a purchaser as much to the design. But rather they will
buy our product because they believe it’s an incredibly worthy cause, which it is but
unfortunately not everyone can tell from first glimpses.
AIM 3 EVALUATION
• Aim: Get some donations from Island School and the general public
• Objective: Make notice of our Project through posters around Discovery
   Bay advertising our sale.
• Success Criteria: Posters were put up all over Discovery Bay 2 weeks in
advance. They were placed in buildings and all over tennis courts.
People were aware of what was going on.
Evaluation:
Strengths: Many Island School students are environmental and believe in
helping the HKSF with the conservation of sharks and made generous
donations after looking into the HKSF from our posters. Discovery Bay
residents are very wholesome and believe in helping anything that will help
the environment. They purchased our product and made donations.
Weaknesses: It was tough to advertise our campaign as there is so much
information that only some of it would convince people.
Actions for the Future: In the future I think we should do something more to
get more money and donations off people. (E.g. a sponsored run)

Dear Hong Kong Shark Foundation,
We are proud to say we have finally completed selling the ordered shirts in discovery bay plaza. The money we have
raised will be sent over soon. If you haven't seen the final shirts on customers we will attach some. We would like to
thank you for letting us help your foundation and allowing us to help spread awareness. We have gained 7 volunteer
s in this process in which we will be attending the upcoming shark march. Thank you for your support and time!
We hope to see you soon.
Teresa & Sophie

We then received a reply.

Hi Teresa and Sophie,
Thanks for your email and support!
Your final t-shirt is is fantastic. all the members of HKSF would like to thank you for all your hard work and effort that has
been put into this project. We are also glad to say we would love for you to carry on seeing these in the future as your
donation and support really counts. We love the design for the shirts and posters that you have passed around. It is
good to hear support from all around Hong Kong, and now DB! We are especially thankful for your help with
recruiting more volunteers and a shark ambassador! We hope we work with you in the future,
Bertha
EVALUATING PROCESS: R&P

• I think I researched into our project a lot. I visited their site
and analyzed their data against ours and we
researched into what they would prefer us to produce
and sell and others ways students can get involved with
  the foundation.
• The bits of research I felt was most useful to me were the
surveys. They gave us a clear understanding and idea of
what our audience would purchase in order to help us
design and create our product along with advertising.
• The strategies that didn’t provide us with very useful
information would probably be the research into our
client. Most of the public just wanted to help a god
cause and weren’t particularly interested in the HKSF
whereas in school students were more interested but
knew a lot about the HKSF themselves.
EVALUATING PROCESS: TECHNICAL
           SKILLS
• Throughout the course of this project I think I have
developed a few new skills. Before I wasn’t too keen on
producing things on Photoshop. Now I think I have
developed the skills to produce a advertisement piece and
know the types of typography and relevant information and
logo design etc. I have learnt that I can pigment and
change the appearance of photos on
Photoshop, something I didn’t know before. In the future as
a sixth former advertising events or sales Photoshop would
be a useful tool for this.
EVALUATING PROCESS:
            COMMUNICATION
• I think our group communicated with our client well.
They were sent an email at the beginning of our
project asking for permission and support. We then
sent them the link to our blogs so they could update
themselves on our progress when they want to.
Towards the end we sent another emailing
informing them of how we’ve managed and
  received a speedy reply.
EVALUATING PROCESS: TESTING

• Our testing resulted in useful information about our
product, it helped us get a clear idea of what
people preferred and how to improve any future
sales or product sales. Our best survey questions
were the direct questions that asked people what
  they wanted from us.
EVALUATION PROCESS: O&C

• I started my creativity and originality on
paper, designing a few posters and then I made a
survey so the public could decide which design
they would prefer to see and what attracted them
the most. This paper planning allowed the
Photoshop editing to be much easier for me and
helped develop my technical creativity capacity
