(it’s a killer)
Wat U Should Know
A slide show for kids and others
who want to avoid the flu
2. Wat it is:
• A VIRUS:
• Single celled nasty, smaller than a
bacterium.
• It lives off a host (YOU).
• Replicates itself (inside your body).
• It resists antibiotics.
• In short: It’s BAD NEWS!
3. Symptomz
Fever (100.0°F +)
• Cough
• Other symptoms may include:
• Sore throat
• Headache
• Body aches
• Chills
• Extreme fatigue
• Nausea/Vomiting/Diarrhea
• Runny/Stuffy nose
4. How Flu Spredz
• Molly sneezes or coughs and does not cover it
correctly, or wash her hands afterwards.
• Virus lands on a surface in a droplet from a sneeze or a
cough (hand, desk, doorknob).
• Polly touches her eyes, nose or mouth before washing her
hands or breathes in airborne mist from the cough or sneeze.
• Virus invades person Polly’s body and multiplies. Polly is
contagious for a day or so before showing symptoms.

6. Kontrol and Prevention
• Get a flu shot or the flu nasal injection.
• Hand washing
• 1. Wet hands.
• 2. Apply soap and rub for 20 seconds.
• (Sing “Happy Birthday” twice)
• 3. Rinse.
• 4. Dry.
• 5. Use paper towel to turn off faucet and open restroom
door.
• (Assume others haven’t washed as well as you did.)
• When soap/water are not available, use a hand sanitizer.
• Apply a dime sized amount
7. Infection Kontrol
• Cover Coughs and Sneezes
Correctly In your sleeve!
• Why is coughing/sneezing in your sleeve better
than coughing/sneezing in your hand?
• You are less likely to spread your germs if they end
up on your sleeve than you are if they end up on
your hands.
8. Yuck!
If a tissue is needed, throw it away afterwards
(don’t keep for later!) then wash or sanitize hands
as soon as possible.
• Keep your hands away from your eyes, nose, &
mouth
• Avoid close contact with people who are
symptomatic
• Stay home when you are sick
• Protect others from exposure to virus
• Slow the spread of illness
