The Satyanarayan Puja, worship of the lord Satyanarayan and the embodiment of eternal truth, is the most commonly performed ritualistic prayers in Hindu homes. Enthusiastic devotees have been performing this ritual for several reasons. 3. Shree Satyanarayan Puja is a puja or worship which is dedicated
to Lord Vishnu, one among the great Hindu trinities. The word
Satya means Truth and Narayan means that which is abiding in
everybody and everything. Thus, the worship of Lord
Satyanarayan suggests that in order to overcome difficulties
and problems either caused by this life or previous births, one
has to begin worshipping Truth.The Purpose of inviting family
and friends for this puja is to encourage harmony and

4. Hindu mythology is replete with tales of the divine sage Narad
Muni, who is called ‘Triloka Sanchari,’ as he can move about in
all the three mythical worlds. On one of his celestial trips when
he visited earth, he witnessed rampant misery. Unable to find a
way to relieve human suffering, he approached Lord Vishnu, or
Narayana, and related to him the sad state of affairs on earth.
Vishnu said to Narad, “Let people observe the Satyanarayana
Vrata in the evening of Sankranti or Purnima. Let them all hear
the story of Satyanarayan Katha, and all miseries will come to an
end.”
Narad returned to earth and preached the glory of the Sri
Satyanarayana Puja. Many observed the vow without taking any
food during the course of the day and attained what they
desired. As the legend goes, all were happy and prosperous.
5. There is no hard and fast rule for performing the vratam and
it can be performed on any day, at any time and by anyone
irrespective of their caste, creed, marital status etc. However,
generally any full moon day i.e. Pournami day is considered
auspicious to perform the vratam. Ekadasi days of any month
are also good for performing the vratam.
It is also good to perform the vratam on special occasions
like birthdays, marriage day etc. The pooja is very easy and
simple to perform and one can do it even without a priest at
home.
A detailed version of performing the pooja is mentioned in
Reva Kanda of Skanda Puranam. Suta Mahamuni narrated it to
the rishis in the Naimisharanya which is mentioned in the
Vrata Katha or the story that is read after the vratam.
