Nurses working in the area of
Tuberculosis (TB) convened in Lusaka for a
TB Review meeting following a training
conducted in April 2016 organised by the
Zambia Union of Nurses Organisation
(ZUNO) and the International Council of
Nurses (ICN). This was part of the
Tuberculosis Multi-Drug Resistant (MDR –
TB) project programme, a collaboration
between ZUNO and ICN.
The meeting was held to enable
participants, drawn from all of Zambia’s ten
provinces, to share experiences and report
on activities done following last years’
training. The participants shared
information on new TB management trends
in their work area as well as identified areas
that needed to be worked on to reduce the
spread of TB and identify patients with
multi-drug resistant TB.
In opening the two day review meeting on
17th July 2017, ZUNO General Secretary
Mr. Fray Michelo reiterated ZUNOs’ efforts
in ensuring that TB is stopped adding that
nurses and midwives can make invaluable
contribution in identifying gaps in
implementation and monitoring progress
towards ending TB.
Meanwhile Mr. Jojo Mulenga Moyo, a
Zambian Registered Nurse and TB Focal
person working at the University Teaching
Hospitals (UTHs)-chest clinic, was
awarded as a June 2017 Leading light
alongside three other nurses from China
and one from Lesotho.
The Leading Lights Award highlights
the contribution of those involved with
caring for those affected by any form of TB
and shows the world what an impact
effective training and resources can have
on this global disease.
The ICN TB/MDR-TB Leading Lights
initiative aims to showcase the work of
exceptional nurses trained by the ICN
TB/MDR-TB project who are making an
outstanding contribution to TB prevention,
care and management in their local facility
and/or community. The winners are
highlighted on the ICN’s TB Project
webpages, www.icn.ch/tbproject.html, and
presented with a certificate and a special
pin by their national nurses association.
ZUNO would like to congratulate Mr Moyo
for exhibiting exceptional qualities thereby
standing out as a role model and leader in
the field of TB. The details of Mr Moyos’
work have been published in the June 2017
ICN leading lights flyer. ###

GNC enhances electronic record
management system
The General Nursing Council of Zambia (GNC) has
embarked on the enhancement of the electronic record
management system which will see among other things the
online release of examination results.
A circular recently issued by GNC Registrar’s office has
stated that the electronic record management system will
include features such as online; Registration of Nurses and
Midwives, Renewal of Nurses and Midwives licences,
Examination entry applications, Student indexing, and
Payments.
This means that students who sat for the May/June 2017
examination will access examination results online after
registering online.
GNC had begun the implementation of a regulatory Human
Resource Information System in 2014 with support from the
United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief
(PEPFAR) through the Centres for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC). The project is being implemented by the
Emory University Zambia Health Workforce Project.

A circular recently issued by GNC Registrar’s office has stated that the electronic record management system will include features such as online; Registration of Nurses and Midwives, Renewal of Nurses and Midwives licences, Examination entry applications, Student indexing, and Payments. This means that students who sat for the May/June 2017 examination will access examination results online after registering online. GNC had begun the implementation of a regulatory Human Resource Information System in 2014 with support from the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The project is being implemented by the Emory University Zambia Health Workforce Project. ### S t e p s t o a c c e s s i n g t h e G N C p o Steps to accessing to GNC portal
