While Lyme disease is considered to be relatively uncommon in the UK, it is likely that many cases are simply undiagnosed, many of which turn up in our clinics frustrated by conventional approaches to managing their symptoms. Being able to identify clients with suspected Lyme disease is vital, as many cases that present with early or initial symptoms of fever, headache or other neurological symptoms as a consequence of a tick-borne bacterial infection, simply do not relate these symptoms to having been bitten. As such, this highlights the importance of the need to take comprehensive and detailed client history notes, certainly when a client is reporting symptoms that have not responded to conventional interventions.
With appropriate antibiotic treatment, most patients with early-stage Lyme disease recover rapidly and completely. Signs and symptoms of Lyme disease, however, vary by disease stage, and because many individuals who present with symptoms fail to recall a history of a tick bite or to report the classic bulls-eye rash, they often miss out on what is a relatively narrow window of opportunity to prevent the condition from progressing.
As Lyme disease is a multi-system illness, if left untreated, it can progress to affect the skin, joints, immune system, nervous system, or other vital organs, with many of the symptoms becoming indistinguishable from other multi-system conditions such as fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome.
In this hour-long webinar, Dr Nina Bailey discusses strategies for practitioners to help identify and manage symptoms of Lyme disease.
This document discusses antibiotics, including their definition, history, classification, mechanisms of action, uses, and complications. Antibiotics are medications that kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria and were first discovered by Alexander Fleming in 1928. They are classified based on their mechanism of action (inhibiting cell wall, protein, or nucleic acid synthesis), spectrum of activity (narrow or broad), and mode of action (bacteriostatic or bactericidal). While antibiotics have reduced mortality from bacterial infections, their overuse and misuse has led to increased antibiotic resistance in bacteria.
This document discusses multi-drug therapy and drug interactions. It notes that drug interactions can occur when substances like foods, beverages, or other drugs interact with a medication. This can cause unexpected side effects or make the drugs less effective. The document outlines different types of drug interactions and provides examples. It describes how multiple drug therapy is common for patients with chronic illnesses but can increase risks if not managed carefully. It discusses challenges like altered pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics from drug combinations. The document provides tips for preventing interactions and managing polypharmacy.
The document provides an overview of antibiotic resistance, including definitions of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance. It discusses mechanisms of antibiotic resistance such as enzyme modification, altered target sites, efflux pumps, and decreased membrane permeability. Causes of resistance include overuse and misuse of antibiotics in humans, agriculture, and health care settings. Management of resistance involves prudent antibiotic use, infection control, developing new antibiotics, and global cooperation. National action plans aim to combat resistance through improved awareness, surveillance, optimal antibiotic use, and investments in research.
Vaccines provide active immunity by exposing the immune system to weakened or killed pathogens. They stimulate antibody production and immune memory. Common childhood vaccines protect against diseases like diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps and rubella. Vaccines can be live attenuated, inactivated, toxoid or subunit based. They are highly effective but do not guarantee 100% protection and side effects can include fever, redness or swelling at the injection site. Maintaining the recommended immunization schedule is important for public health.
The document discusses antimicrobial resistance in bacteria. It begins by defining antimicrobial resistance as the ability of microorganisms to resist antimicrobial agents that they were previously susceptible to. The two main types are acquired resistance, which occurs when bacteria gain resistance genes, and intrinsic resistance, which refers to innate resistance in certain bacterial species. The overuse and misuse of antimicrobials is identified as the primary driver in the emergence and spread of resistant bacteria. The mechanisms by which bacteria develop resistance are explored, such as decreasing drug permeability, active drug efflux, and enzymatic inactivation or modification of drug targets. Methods for laboratory testing of bacterial resistance are also summarized.
Mumps is a contagious viral infection that causes swelling of the salivary glands, usually the parotid glands. It has an incubation period of 2-3 weeks and patients are contagious from 1 day before symptoms to 9 days after. Common symptoms include fever, headache, and pain or swelling of the parotid glands. Complications can include orchitis, pancreatitis, meningitis, and deafness. Diagnosis is usually made clinically but can be confirmed by virus isolation or serologic tests. Treatment is supportive and focuses on pain management and hydration. Vaccination provides the best prevention against mumps infection and its complications.

documentaire over de ziekte van Lyme : “Under our Skin”
3. Inhoud van de Lezing
1. Hoe krijg je de ziekte van Lyme?
2. Symptomen en co-infecties?
3. Borrelia een pleomorf organisme
4. Welke Lyme testen zijn betrouwbaar?
5. Reguliere behandeling
6. Niet-reguliere behandeling
7. Bloedonderzoeken
8. Enkele feiten over teken:
• Steken i.p.v. Bijten
• Braaksel bevat de Borrelia
• Houden een winterslaap
• Besmetten mens, hond, paard, kat,
muis
11. Lyme-Artritis
• Gewrichten zijn compacte slechte doorbloede
weefsels
ontstekingen
• Kenmerkend voor Lyme: pijn kan zomaar
overspringen naar ander gewricht
12. Neuroborreliose:
Lyme-infectie in het hoofd
Klachten/Problemen met:
-Pieptoon in oren
-Brainfog/hersenmist
-Verwarring

-Slaapstoornissen
-Dubbelzien
-Dronkengevoel
-Vermoeidheid
-Hoofdpijn
-Woordvinding en spraak
-Ruiken/proeven
-Verlammingen
-Depressiviteit
-Psychose
-ADHD
-Angstaanvallen
-Dementie
13. • Neurotoxines lossen makkelijk op in
zenuwweefsel
• Neurotoxines gaan verbindingen aan met
kwikzilver. Verwijderen van deze verbindingen
is moeilijk
• Gevolg is mogelijke schade aan myelineschede
Neuroborreliose:
Lyme-infectie in het hoofd
14. ACA (lyme in de huid)
• ACA staat voor: acrodermatitis chronica
atrophicans ofwel chronische ontsteking en
vergroeiing van de huid
• Begint met paarsrode warm aanvoelende
verkleuring van de huid, meestal onderarmen
of onderbenen. Daarna ontstaat een hele
dunne huid.
15. PLS:Post Lyme Syndroom
• Post lyme syndroom is gecreëerd door anti-
biotica gebruik. Deze vorm komt waarschijnlijk
het meeste voor.
16. Aandoeningen bij Lyme:
• Lyme kan overgaan in andere aandoeningen:
– Chronische vermoeidheid, fibromyalgie,
voedselallergie, meervoudige chemische
overgevoeligheid, parkinson, alzheimer, ALS
• Lyme patiënten lijden bijna altijd aan:
– Verzuring, zuurstoftekort, beschadigde darmflora,
belasting met gifstoffen, stress
• Co-infecties:
– Bartonella, babesia, ehrlichia, ricketsia, chlamydia, Q-
koorts, FSME
17. Co-infecties
• Babesia: tekenkoorts of piroplasmose. Deze
parasiet leeft in de rode bloedcellen en
vernietigd ze. Symptomen zijn: koorts,
hoofdpijn, nachtzweten en spierpijn. Babesia
maakt Lyme pijnlijker in het hoofd
• Bartonella: kattenkrab ziekte. Via kat of via
teek die op een kat heeft gezeten.
Symptomen: gezwollen en ontstoken
lymfklieren, algehele malaise.
18. Co-infecties
• Ehrlichia: Ehrlichiose of anaplasmose is een
infectie door ehrlichia bacteriën die witte
bloedcellen binnendringen. Symptomen zijn:
koorst, hoofdpijn, spierpijn, gewrichtspijn en
vermoeidheid.
nieuw soort virus ging.
Symptomen:
Vermoeidheid, koorts, gewrichtsklachten, spierpijn, slapeloosheid,
hoofdpijn, angst en emotionele labiliteit, geheugen- en
concentratieproblemen, verwardheid.
21. Dr. Garth Nicolson, PhD: As many as 75% of Lyme disease
patients appear to have Mycoplasma infections
Mycoplasma
22. Lyme en Co-infecties kunnen overal
in het lichaam aanwezig zijn en
kunnen bijna elk mogelijk
ziektesymptoom aannemen.
24. Traditionele geneeskunde: De leer van Louis
Pasteur
-Mircobe theorie/theorie van de ziekte verwekker.
Deze theorie stelt dat infectieziekten voornamelijk
worden veroorzaakt door een ziekteverwekker van
een externe bron het lichaam binnendringt
-Specifieke onveranderlijke soorten bacteriën
veroorzaken specifieke ziekte. Dit is officieel
geaccepteerd laat in de 19de eeuw. concept van
monomorfisme
Monomorfisme
25. Monomorfisme
betaald: Antibiotica resistentie
26. Waarschuwingen gebruik Anti-biotica:
• 2013: Resistentie antibiotica even gevaarlijk als terrorisme:
klimaatverandering.
27. Borrelia: een pleomorf organisme
• De meeste van deze ziektekiemen handelen
via het principe van pleo (vele) morfisme
(vormen).
• Pleo morfisme: micro organismen (bacterie)
kan verschillende vormen aannemen.
Verandering van vorm en functie.
31. Cyste vorming
Wanneer bijvoorbeeld antibiotica wordt
toegediend kan de borrelia bacterie zich
inkapselen. In deze vorm kan zij zeker 10
maanden of langer overleven. De bacterie
ontwaakt wanneer ongunstige situatie is
geweken.
32. Biofilm
oppervlakken
In een biofilm kunnen enkelvoudige of
meervoudige organisme soorten zich omgeven
met een complexe matrix.
33. Burgdorfer aan het woord bij een
exclusief interview:
Feb 2007:
Burgdorfer: Neurologic manifestations have to be the next stage of research. Also antigenicity.
Ecologically, the diversification of Borrelia is tremendous. Because of the spirochete’s ability to change
—to change its physiology, to change its “antigenic” structure for instance—a spirochete may be
capable of producing disease or not.
And one piece of work that needs to be done, that has lately been neglected, is development of the
spirochete—whether it transfers fission, or whether individual spirochetes have the ability to break
into spheres or particles. We don’t know yet how they do it but they do. They go into the lymphocytes,
they go into every tissue. Just because we have not seen , does not mean that they are not there. Once
the immune response is down, are capable of re-entering the bloodstream and producing disease.
Andy Wilson: Do you have Lyme?
Dr. Burgdorfer: No. I don’t. But I say that cautiously. Because I have been working with Lyme disease
ever since 1981.
34. Pleomorfisme
Als ons lichaam ziek is
zorg dan voor een
gezond intern milieu.
Zorg ervoor dat
bacteriën virussen en
schimmels niet de kans
hebben om zich verder
te ontwikkelen. Zorg
voor een gezonde
zuurgraad
PH ochtend urine tussen
7,5 en 8,5
36. Welke testen zijn worden er gebruikt?
• Elisa test: Antistoffen test
• Immuno-blot test: Anti stoffen test
• Levend Bloed Analyse
• PCR test: DNA test op lyme spirocheet.
• LTT test: Lymfocyten Transformatie Test
• CD 57 test: type NK-cellen
37. Sensiviteit ELISA en WB
De sensitiviteit ligt bij ongeveer 60% voor de
ELISA en bij 50% voor de Western Blot.
Het mag duidelijk zijn dat de bovengenoemde
test onnauwkeurigheden niet een basis zijn
kunnen voor een diagnose. Gebeurt dit toch dan
zijn misdiagnosen als fibromyalgie, ME, MS, ALS
niet uit te sluiten.
40. CD 57 test
= Sub groep natural killer
cel
– Normaal > 100
– Onder de honderd:
borrelia
– CD57 < 60 is lyme +
mycoplasma+ andere co-
infectie
– Marker om effectiviteit
van therapie te meten
– Cytokinen therapie?
• In chronisch stadium anti-biotica waarschijnlijk zinloos
• ILADS richtlijnen.
44. ILADS richtlijnen voor Lyme
International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society
effectieve “state of the art” behandelingsregime zoeken

- DPP-4 enzym
- LDN
- Samento
- Cumanda
- Epiginar protocol
52. Leefstijl adviezen
• Geen gluten en geen caseine
• Alkalisch voedingsprogramma
• Geen dierlijke eiwitten zoals vlees, zuivel
eieren. Vis met mate.
– Pathogene Parasitaire last stijgt door inname
dierlijke eiwitten.
• Veel basisch water drinken (PH 7,5 >)
53. Nieuwe ontwikkelingen
Borrelia-parasiet blijkt mangaan in
in minstens twee belangrijke enzymen.
afweersysteem.
54. Nieuwe Ontwikkelingen
Wild Mice Have Natural Protection Against Lyme Borreliosis
Apr. 4, 2013 — Like humans, mice can become infected with Borrelia.
However, not all mice that come into contact with these bacteria contract
the dreaded Lyme disease: Animals with a particular gene variant are
immune to the bacteria, as scientists from the universities of Zurich and Lund
demonstrate. Wild mice are the primary hosts for Borrelia, which are
transmitted by ticks.
Tschirren and colleagues examined wild mice for signs of a Borrelia infection
in a large-scale field study. Borrelia afzelii -- the scientific name for the
bacteria -- feed on mouse blood. The researchers discovered that mice with
a particular variant of the antigen receptor TLR2 were around three times
less susceptible to Borrelia. "The immune system of mice with this receptor
variant recognizes the pathogen better and can trigger an immune response
more quickly to destroy the Borrelia in time," says Tschirren. Infected mice
exhibit similar symptoms to humans -- especially joint complaints.
Consequently, in the wild infected mice probably do not survive for very long
and weakened animals soon fall victim to foxes and birds of prey.
57. Bloedonderzoeken
Bijzonderheden:
