The University of Groningen Language Centre has developed online language courses for Dutch. They started with a free 3-week MOOC and now offer paid 8-week courses in 6 levels from beginner to advanced. The courses are held 3 times per year with around 18 courses completed so far and over 300 students. The courses use a textbook plus the university's online learning platform for activities like videos, exercises and communication tools. Future plans include expanding the course offerings to other languages and developing intercultural competence courses online based on the European Language Portfolio framework.
