The Union Budget 2023 allocated ₹1,99,107.71 crore for the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, a 68% increase. ₹81,006 crore of the increased funds were earmarked for the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), representing a 133% rise. The government will finalize plans for new expressways under the PM Gati Shakti program in 2022-2023. The national highway network will be expanded by 25,000 km and ₹20,000 crore additionally mobilized for infrastructure development.
