England and William the Conqueror won at the Battle Hastings.

great skill, stopping
them when they
turned to run away. He
gave them courage
and shared their

3. Taken from a history textbook from the 1980s.
“Three horses were killed under William. Three times he leapt unafraid to
the ground and the man who had killed his horse. This shows how quick he
was to make his mind up and how strong he was. With savage blows of his
sword, he split shields, helmets and coats of chain mail. He hit the enemy
with his own shield. William’s soldiers took courage when they saw him
fighting on foot. Some, who were weak from bleeding kept fighting
because they saw him fighting. William helped some of his men to safety.”
