• Most NCDMV positions do NOT require you to have a degree. If you do not meet the degree requirements for the job, your experience may serve
as a substitution.
• The “Minimum Education and Experience Requirements” at the bottom of each job posting will indicate the amount of RELEVANT experience
needed to qualify.
Example
• In the above job posting, if you do not have a High School Diploma/GED, but you do have at least two years of relevant experience you may
minimally qualify.
• For your experience to be considered, you MUST document in your application how it is related to the position.
4 Tips to a Better Application
1. Each job you apply to may contain different minimum education and experience requirements. Modify each application you submit to fit
the requirements of each position to which you apply.
2. Enter each job you have held separately.
Do not combine your jobs into one section of the work history.
3. The start and end dates you list for your positions are extremely important.
Make sure you have a beginning and ending date for each position you have held.
4. Make sure information in the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities section of the job posting appears in your work history.

7 Tips regarding KSAs and Questions
1. Did you address each posted KSA in your job duties on your application?
2. Use keywords & phrases exactly as they appear in job posting & questions
3. Can the hiring manager see my key credentials in 15 seconds?
4. Do I prominently summarize “why me” at the top of my application
5. Be Direct: Directly address each question
e.g., if an advanced degree is required make sure the complete details of the degree are listed on your
application. If the question asks about writing ability, immediately detail experience instead of your enjoyment of
writing.
6. Think Metrics: Highlight quantitative ways your work has had a measurable impact, how you’ve helped a
company save/make money, improve performance, and matter.
7. Think Efficiency: Highlight how you can save time, make time or manage time, and key ways that you have
improved efficiency.

1. When the posting closes, the NCDOT team screens all applicants.
2. If you submitted more than one application for a single posting, we ONLY review the most recent application you submitted.
3. You will be notified by email with status updates on your application.
