2. El-Capitan *El-Capitan is a 3,593 foot vertical wall of granite. El Capitan and other promontories in the valley provide some of the most challenging and difficult rock climbing opportunities in the lower 48 states. El Capitan, "The Chief", is possibly Yosemite's most impressive feature. It is the world's largest solid granite block. It is so tall that different parts of the face may actually experience different weather.
3. Half dome *One of the most famous of the peaks around the valley is Half Dome which soars 8,842 feet, a full 4,733 feet above the valley floor. This giant block of cracked grey granite looks like a dome whose side has been sheared away, as can be seen below. It has been called the grandest monolith on earth.
4. The people who come When the first people came People today The first tourist arrived in 1855,they traveled by horseback and walked. Today, more than 3.5 million people visit the park every year. Now people travel by car. They still travel on horseback and walk in the park . Most people come in the summer months.
15. Fun facts 95% of this park is preserved as wilderness. It’s located in the eastern central part of California . At about 2,799 years old , the Grizzly Giant is the oldest tree in the park and the fifth largest in the world. One of the first people here, was a Scottish naturalist was John Muir. The first person to climb Mt. Lyell was John Tileston.
