The yellow-tailed woolly monkey reaches 54
centimeters.
Males are recognized by their impressive
golden pubic hair and females by their smaller,
more delicate hairs.
4. FEEDING
The yellow-tailed woolly monkey feeds on
fruits, leaves and insects. Being arboreal,
(it lives in trees) it requires large areas of
forest to survive.
Its name refers to the yellow color of the
hair on its genitals and the terminal part of
its tail with which it clings to tree branches.
Its reproductive rate is very slow and it
can only have one offspring every three
years.

“It is the largest mammal endemic to Peru. That in itself
puts it at a very attractive level.
It is like the Chinese panda bear (Ailuropoda
melanoleuca).
It is only found in China and is in danger of extinction.
He's big, handsome, charismatic and people are dying for
him.
The yellow-tailed woolly monkey could be Peru's panda
bear, but it has not yet been valued or exploited on a
massive scale," says Fanny Cornejo.
