Introduction: Yellow fever vaccine recommended for Objective: To study the safety profile of yellow fever
peoples travelling to yellow fever endemic regions. vaccine in healthy Indian travellers.
This vaccine has been in use for more than 70 years
and has historically been considered one of the safest
and most effective live vaccines available. The
common side effects of yellow fever vaccine are mild
and include low-grade fever, headache, and myalgia,
occurring in fewer than 8% of subjects who are
vaccinated.1,2 Methods: Prospective telephonic survey based study at
an accredited private clinic over a period of 4 months. A
total of 120 healthy persons who received yellow fever
vaccine were included in the study.
Results:
 The average age of the healthy Indian travellers
receiving yellow fever vaccine was 36 ± 0.9 years
 26% of the vaccine recipients are male patient.
 94% of the subjects did not report any safety &
tolerability issue. Minor side effects (like headache,
fever, pain at site of injection and malaise) were
observed in 6% of the patients.
 Number of travellers vaccinated 2nd time for yellow
fever 4%.
 All of the vaccine recipient were free from any kind
of allergy
CONCLUSIONS: These preliminary results of this pilot study have
confirmed that yellow fever vaccine is safe in healthy Indian
travellers.
