COMING UP
The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M return to
the First United Bank Center this weekend as
they conclude the regular season starting on
Thursday night against Texas A&M-Commerce
with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. in Canyon.
- SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE
The Lions are guided by 17th year head coach
Sam Walker. Entering the 2016-17 season,
Walker stands as the second-winningest active
coach in the Lone Star Conference with 266
career victories, and also ranks fifth all-time in
winning percentage among coaches with at
least 50 career victories, winning 58 percent of
his games.
Texas A&M-Commerce enters the weekend
with an overall record of 18-7 with a 10-6 mark
in LSC play to sit tied with WT in third place in
the league standings. The Lions topped #9
Tarleton State on Saturday afternoon on Senior
Day in Commerce, 83-82.
The Lions are led offensively by Malik Albert
who has gone 143-of-316 from the floor
including 32-of-106 from deep and 102-of-151
from the charity stripe while averaging 4.7
rebounds and 18.3 points per game so far this
season. TAMUC has gone 732-of-1627 (45%)
from the field including 174-of-555 (31.4%) from
deep and 469-of-5717 (65.4%) from the free
throw line while averaging 38.6 (-1.6) rebounds
and 84.3 (+6.8) points per game.
The Buffs lead the all-time series against the
Lions, 49-31 with TAMUC taking the first meeting
between the two teams this season back on
Jan. 21st in Commerce in a double overtime
thriller, 104-103.
- A LOOK BACK
ASU RECAP
The Buffs used a career afternoon by
sophomore Ryan Quaid as five different Buffs
scored double-figures in a 90-81 Lone Star
Conference win over the Rams of Angelo State
in front of over 1,100 fans at the Junell Center in
San Angelo, Texas
WT went 31-of-57 (54.4%) from the floor
including 8-of-20 (40%) from long range and
20-of-28 (71.4%) from the free throw line to
go along with 33 rebounds (11 offensive, 22
defensive), 15 assists, 13 turnovers, one block
and six steals. Quaid went 11-of-16 from the
floor and 2-of-4 from the charity stripe to score
a career high 24 points to go along with nine
rebounds followed by David Chavlovich (15),
Eric Golightly Jr. (15), J. Evans (12) and Drew
Evans (10) in double-figures.
The Rams were led offensively by Quay King
who went 10-of-16 from the floor and 8-of-13
from behind the arc to lead all players with 31
points followed by Prince Foster with 23. ASU
went 25-of-47 (53.2%) from the field including
12-of-23 (52.2%) from deep and 19-of-31 (61.3%)
from the free throw line with 24 rebounds (four
offensive, 20 defensive), 12 assists, 17 turnovers,
one block and three steals.
LAST MEETING WITH TAMUC (JAN. 21, 2017)
The then #12 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M hit
14 threes but dropped their second straight
contest as they fell to the Lions of Texas A&M-
Commerce, 104-103 in a double overtime
thriller inside of the TAMUC Fieldhouse.
WT went 36-of-82 (43.9%) from the floor
including 14-of-45 (31.1%) from deep and
17-of-22 (77.3%) from the free throw line with
50 rebounds (10 offensive, 30 defensive), 18
assists, 11 turnovers, eight blocks and five
steals. Chavlovich went 10-of-28 from the floor
and 5-of-17 from deep to lead the Buffs with
29 points followed by J. Evans with 24 with 10
rebounds for the double-double.
NCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS (FEB. 22)
Tarleton State sits atop of the regional rankings
followed by Colorado School of Mines, UT
Permian Basin, WT, Texas A&M-Commerce, Fort
Lewis, Colorado State-Pueblo, Regis, Cameron
and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The top eight teams
in the South Central Region will take part in the
Regional Tournament taking place on March
11-14 at the top overall seed, the winners of the
three conference tournaments will receive an
automatic bid into the postseason with the last
five spots being filled by at-large selections.

Texas A&M-Commerce Probable Starters
NABC DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (FEB. 21)
The Buffs enter the week with an 22-7 overall record with a 10-6
mark in Lone Star Conference play. Fairmont State picked up 14
of the possible 16 first place votes for a total of 397 points followed
by Indiana, Pa. (370), NW Missouri State (367), Bellarmine (350), Cal
Baptist (339), Kutztown (327), West Liberty (303), Hawai’l Pacific (291)
and Kentucky Wesleyan (269) to round out the top ten.
The South Central Region was represented by Fort Lewis (14th),
Tarleton State (15th), Colorado School of Mines (18th), UT Permian
Basin (RV) and West Texas A&M (RV).
HOME SWEET HOME
West Texas A&M hits the road for a two game road trip following
a pair of LSC home wins this past weekend, the Buffs are a perfect
13-0 at home this season. During those 13 home contests, WT has
shot 47.5% (377-of-794) including 33.7% (118-of-350) from behind the
arc and 76.6% (307-of-401) from the charity stripe to go along with
39.6 (+4.8) rebounds per game and 90.7 (+15.2) points per contest.
NATIONALLY SPEAKING
WT leads DII Basketball in two offensive categories: free throws
attempted (830), free throws made (606) while ranking 14th in total
rebounds (1,108), fifth in 3-pt field goal attempts (832) and 14th
in total 3-pt field goals made (280). Junior guard David Chavlov-
ich ranks sixth in 3-pt field goal attempts (240), 13th in field goal
attempts (443) and 27th in total points (561).

Tom Brown was hired on April 16, 2014, as the
17th head coach in WT men’s basketball history.
In just two short years Brown has turned around
the West Texas A&M University Basketball Program.
Brown led the team to its first 20+ win season since
2010-11. The Buffs were picked to finish 5th in the
LSC this past season and despite a pre-season,
season ending injury to sophomore starter Carl
White the team still managed to finish 2nd in the
LSC with an overall record of 21-10. The 2nd place
finish is the highest since the conference was split
North/South. The Buffs continued to battle minor
injuries throughout the year but every player that
was called on would step up. Under Brown’s di-
rection the team had some very strong individual
performances. WT sophomore guard David Chav-
lovich led the way. For his outstanding play David
was named an NABC All-American, the Lone Star
Conference Player of the Year and 1st Team All-
LSC selection. Sophomore Jordan Evans (playing
in his first season) received honorable mention
All-LSC acclaim. The Buffs again were dominate in
the classroom as the team GPA exceeded a 3.0
for the year.
2015-16 the Buffs set a new record in the class-
room. The team recorded the highest GPA for
Men’s Basketball in a season.
Coach Brown inherited a WT team that won
two games in the LSC and 10 games overall in
2013-14. Brown had to start from scratch in late
April, the team had three seniors and one walkon
redshirt freshman. Just three student-athletes saw
playing time from the previous year and the team
was picked to finish last in the Lone Star Confer-
ence Preseason Poll. However, under Brown West
Texas A&M University finished the season 5th in the
LSC and posted a 17-12 overall record. The Buffs
made the LSC Tournament as the fifth seed. There
were some individual accolades as well, all three
of the returning seniors improved on their scoring
average from the previous season. Tez Dumars
surpassed Maurice Cheeks in WT All-Time scoring
and finished his career ranked 4th All-Time in
scoring at WT. David Chavlovich was the squads
leading scorer, 2nd Team All-Conference Perform-
er and the Freshman of the Year in the LSC as he
averaged 16.5 points per contest to go along with
93 assists and 30 steals.
In 2014-15, the Buffs set a new record in the
classroom. The team recorded the highest GPA
for Men’s Basketball in a season.
Tom was the driving force as the Associate
Head Coach and head recruiter in the most
successful Division II men’s basketball program
in recent history at Winona State University. The
Warriors won the NCAA Division II National Cham-
pionship in 2006 and 2008 and finished as the
National Finalist in 2007. During that span, Winona
State posted an unprecedented 105-6 record.
WT Assistant Coach Quincy Henderson played for
Coach Brown from 2005-2008. Quincy’s record as
a collegiate player at WSU was 105-6.
Named Division II Bulletin’s ‘Program of the
Decade’ for 2000-2009, WSU set a NCAA Division II
record with 57 consecutive wins, a run that began
on Jan. 13, 2006, and didn’t end until the national
title game on Mar. 24, 2007. The 2007-08 Warrior
squad won a NCAA record 38 games.
An excellent recruiter and teacher, Brown
recruited and developed some of the best
players in the nation with three National Player
of the Year recipients, along with seven first team
All-America honorees. 11 players total have
earned All-America status including WT Sopho-
more David Chavlovich. Brown has coached five
NSIC Most Valuable Players, seven NSIC Defen-
sive Players of the Year and two Elite Eight Most
Valuable Players.
Brown is doing it again at WT as David Chav-
lovich has earned both Freshman of the Year and
Player of the Year in the best Division II Confer-
ence in the Nation, the Lone Star Conference.
Brown attended and played basketball
(1988-1992) and baseball (1991) at Winona State
University. He finished his Warrior career ranked
fifth in program history in scoring, second in assists
and first in steals. He earned his bachelor’s degree
in 1993 in physical education and completed his
master’s degree in education in 1998.
He and his wife Dr. Trisha Brown are the proud
parents of three children, TJ, Zach and Ella. Dr.
Brown is currently an Instructor and works in the
Sports & Exercise Science Department at West
Texas A&M.

double-figures to lead WT to an 86-72
season opening win over the Azusa
Pacific Cougars to open up the CCA
Division II Tipoff Classic at the Santia-
go Canyon College Athletics Com-
plex in Orange, California.
The Buffs went 28-of-64 (43.8%) from
the floor including 10-of-24 (41.7%)
from deep and 20-of-28 (71.4%) from
the charity stripe to go along with 37
rebounds (nine offensive, 28 defen-
sive), 13 assist, seven turnovers, two
blocks and nine steals. Evans led the
way for WT with 20 points followed by
Chavlovich (16), Walton (14), White
(13), and Quaid (12) in double-digits
while Quaid ended the game with 10
rebounds for a double-double.
Azusa Pacific went 23-of-57 (40.4%)
from the field including 9-of-26 (34.6%
from long range and 17-of-23 (73.9%)
from the free throw line to go along
with 40 rebounds (10 offensive, 30
defensive), 13 assists, 20 turnovers,
two blocks and four steals. Schreiber
led all players with 25 points on the
afternoon followed by Peterson with

guard Jordan Evans scored 20 points
for the second straight contest as the
Buffs shot 50 percent from the floor
in an 83-70 win over St. Cloud State
during the CCA Division II Tipoff Clas-
sic at the Santiago Canyon College
Athletics Complex in Orange, Califor-
nia.
The Buffs were led offensively by Ev-
ans with his second straight 20-point
performance followed by White with
17 and Chavlovich with 15. Walton,
Chavlovich and White grabbed six
rebounds each while Chavlovich
dished out five steals. WT went 29-of-
58 (50%) from the floor including 11-
of-25 (44%) from deep and 14-of-28
(50%) with 36 rebounds (nine offen-
sive, 27 defensive), 17 assists, 13 turn-
overs, two blocks and three steals.
The Huskies were led by Davis with
23 points followed by Scottie Stone
with 16 while Davis grabbed eight
rebounds on the night. SCSU went 22-
of-61 (36.1%) from the floor including
7-of-21 (33.3%) from long range and
19-of-26 (73.1%) from the free throw
line to go along with 42 rebounds (15
offensive, 27 defensive), 11 assists, 16
turnovers, five blocks and five steals.
ORANGE, CA - The Buffaloes of West
Texas A&M are off to their best start
to a season since 2012-13 thanks to
an 11-0 run in the heart of the sec-
ond half as WT outlasted #23 Arkan-
sas-Fort Smith, 94-86 in the finale of
the CCA Division II Tipoff Classic at
the Santiago Canyon College Athlet-
ics Complex in Orange, California.
The Buffs were led by Walton with 24
points followed by Chavlovich (19),
Evans (17) and Golightly Jr. (10) with
double-digit points while Chavlovich
led WT with six rebounds and three
assists. WT went 33-of-65 (50.8%) from
the free throw line to go along with 37
rebounds (13 offensive, 24 defensive),
13 assists, 13 turnovers, five blocks
and three steals.
UAFS was led by Thomas with 20
points and five rebounds followed
by Youngblood with 19 and Parker
with 14 points and a team leading
six rebounds. The Lions went 29-of-
