Jack and Stephen presented on various writing techniques including similes, metaphors, personification, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and assonance. A simile directly compares two unlike things using "like" or "as". A metaphor makes a comparison without using "like" or "as". Personification gives human traits to non-living objects or animals. Alliteration repeats consonant sounds, and onomatopoeia uses words that imitate sounds. Assonance repeats vowel sounds in words close together in a sentence.
