It includes every aspect of meeting a market segment’s demand, beginning with the acquisition of goods and products and ending with customer delivery. In order to be classified as international logistics, the goods must cross at least one international border. There are over 126 major ports around the globe that handle the movement of products. The world’s busiest ports are commonly determined using metrics such as load weight and container volume. Shipments are referred to as TEUs which stands for Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit. The terminology came about because one TEU is equal to a single shipping container that measures 20 feet in length by 8 feet in height. It has become standard practice to say TEU instead of container. The total number of TEUs that passes through a port each year is how they are ranked.

There are many lists ranking the world’s largest ports, but the busiest by
far is the Port of Shanghai, which is also the largest port in China. It alone
shipped over 42 million containers, or TEUs, in 2018. That is the same as
one-quarter of China’s entire international trade volume.
Port of Singapore
Coming in at a close second is the Port of Singapore, which was previously
number one. It still maintains the position of the largest publicly owned
seaport and held a throughput of 36.6 million TEUs in 2018.
Port of Shenzhen
The third busiest shipping port in the world is on the Kowloon Peninsula.
The Port of Shenzhen is famous because it has an average daily cargo
value of approximately $700 million. Following that, the Port of Ningbo-
Zhoushan is the result of a merger in 2015, and its convenient location
connects 600 ports across 100 different countries.
