Overpopulation in India has created barriers to effective oral healthcare practices. With a population of over 1.2 billion, there is a dentist to population ratio of 1:9,000 in urban areas but only 1:200,000 in rural areas. Poverty, lack of accessibility due to remote locations, and other social and cultural factors prevent many Indians from receiving adequate dental care. National policies aim to promote preventive dentistry and establish a rural healthcare system focused on prevention over treatment. However, without population control and increased funding for public dental services, overpopulation will continue posing significant challenges to India's oral healthcare system.
