2016 kan dit zelfs oplopen naar 5%. Dat staat in de Afrikaanse Outlook, een uitgave
van de Afrikaanse Ontwikkelingsbank, de Oeso en Verenigde Naties.
Voor het continent zou het betekenen dat groeicijfers weer teruggaan naar het niveau
van voor de financiële crisis. Politieke onzekerheden, de consequenties van de
Ebola-epidemie, de lage prijzen voor olie en andere grondstoffen kunnen de groei
vertragen.
Directe buitenlandse investeringen worden voor 2015 geschat op usd 73,5 miljard.
Een groot deel daarvan is afkomstig uit China dat na de EU de grootste
handelspartner is.

The IMF expects Nigeria to be one of the world’s fastest-growing economies
over the 2011-15 period
A lot of companies expanding into West Africa see Nigeria as a gateway to the
region, even before Ghana.
For external trade earnings Nigeria is highly dependent on domestic crude oil
production levels and the international oil price.
The business environment in Nigeria remains very challenging. Starting a new
business is a time consuming and cumbersome process.

22. Huidige situatie in Nigeria is onrustig
De strijd tussen Boko Haram en het leger is weer opgelaaid nadat eind mei de 72-
jarige Muhammadu Buhari wordt beëdigd als nieuwe president van Nigeria. Hij
kondigde bij zijn inauguratie aan het hoofdkwartier van het leger te willen
verplaatsen van de hoofdstad Aduja naar Maiduguri, een gebied waar Boko Haram
regelmatig huishoudt.
Buhari was al eerder aan de macht in het land met naar schatting 175 miljoen
inwoners. Hij leidde met ijzeren vuist een militaire junta in de jaren tachtig van de
vorige eeuw.
Juist die militaire achtergrond heeft hem vermoedelijk de overwinning bij de
verkiezingen opgeleverd. De Nigerianen hopen dat Buhari de extremisten van
Boko Haram kan verslaan.
De terreurbeweging heeft meer dan 13.000 mensen gedood en 1,5 miljoen
mensen op de vlucht gejaagd.

"rent". Further investment in agricultural or tourism sectors is complicated by poor
infrastructure.
