Dear all member of Academic Research Centre of Nayeb Aminullah Khan Foundation and
Afghanistan Industry Network AIN Centers for Science and Technology NAM S&T and other
Developinp Countires- Kabul – Afghanistan.
Greetings from Academic Research Centre of Nayeb Aminullah Khan Foundation For Science
and Technology (ARCNAKFS&T) and Afghanistan Industry Network (AIN) Centers for Science
and Technology NAM S&T and other Developinp Countires in Kabul Afghanistan in partnership
with the National Science & Technology Commission (NASTEC) and Industrial Technology
Institute (ITI) of Sri Lanka organised an International Workshop titled ‘Mitigation of
Disasters due to Severe Climate Events: From Policy To Practice’ at Colombo, Sri Lanka
during 10-13 March 2016.
An inescapable effect of the climate change is the increase in the occurrence and severity
of natural disaster events. To deal with these it is needed to not only establish a disaster-
prevention strategy and institute various techniques for disaster mitigation, but also, since the
climate change is a reality, adapt in order to assuage vulnerability to the envisaged negative
effects. This would require the development of a roadmap for crisis managers, community
officials and policy makers, which would specify the converging partnerships among a host of
stakeholders, identify resource requirements for successful programmes and provide a step-by-
step demonstration of the disaster-planning process.
The main objectives of the workshop, among others, include bringing the stakeholders at
National and International levels together to share experience for generating roadmap for
reducing the risk in real situations; sending across a message to the policy makers,
environmentalists and other related authorities on disaster management on the need of a realistic,
well-formulated action plan for risk reduction in events occurring due to climate change; and
initiating an international Study / Working Group for working out a common action plan, with a
primary focus on NAM and other developing countries, for practical risk reduction in severe
situations, which can in follow up be proposed to respective governments to be adopted with
necessary amendments.

The following may please be noted:
(a) The last date for submission of applications is Wednesday, 10th
February 2016.
(b) Only limited seats are available for participation in this event. Since a
large number of applications are expected, early response is advisable to avoid
disappointment. No application shall be considered after the closure of the
last date.
(c) The selection will be strictly on merit of the presentation material
submitted by the applicants, their academic background and professional
experience and interest of their parent organisations in the subject area.
(d) Free local hospitality, including accommodation and meals will be
provided by the Sri Lankan hosts to all foreign participants and invited
resource persons from Wednesday, 9th
March (Noon) to Monday, 14th
March
2016 (Noon) (i.e. commencing from one day before the Workshop and for an
additional day after its conclusion). The participants will have to make their
own arrangement of stay beyond these days and if so, they should arrange their
flight schedules accordingly.
Transport will also be provided to the participants free of any cost for
their travel from/to the airport to/from the place of their stay and for visits in
connection with the Workshop.
(e) Application for participation in the Workshop may please be made only to
the Academic Research Centre of Nayeb Aminullah Khan Foundation For
(ARCNAKFS&T) and Afghanistan Industry Network AIN Centers for Science
and Technology of the NAM S&T Centre and other Developinp Countires:

attached with the Announcement, except from Sri Lankan. The Nomination
Form should be filled in completely, either by typing or in capital letters,
without leaving any column blank.
Applicants from Sri Lanka, however, should send their Nomination
Forms only to NASTEC, Colombo.
(f) It is mandatory for all participants to make a scientific presentation
during the Workshop. Accordingly, an extended abstract (1-2 pages, in MS
Word) of the paper proposed to be presented during the Workshop must be
attached with the Nomination Form, without which the application shall be
deemed invalid.
(g) For applications received from member industries of the Islamic
Republic of Afghanistan AIN, which are regularly paying their annual
subscription: The NAM S&T Centres (ARCNAKFS&T) and(AIN) will
provide international airfare to/from Colombo, Sri Lanka by Excursion Class

by Shortest Route to only one official nominee of each country, provided the
application is routed through the of the ARCNAKFS&T Centre in the
applicant’s in all around the country.
In this connection, the Members (ARCNAKFS&T) and Afghanistan
Industry Network( AIN) Centres of NAM S&T may please note that the
ARCNAKFS&T and AIN S&T Centres will consider only one official
nomination from a member for full financial support by the Centre, subject to
the availability of seats and the applicant fulfilling all the above stated criteria.
Any additional nominations from Afghanistan Industries may also be
considered subject to the availability of seats, but such applicants would have
to arrange for their own international fare and would also be required to make
payment of a Processing Fee of US$600 to the Centre in advance.
(h) For applications received fromARCNAKFS&T/ AIN Centres For
NAM S&T Centres defaulting on the payment of their annual dues:
Selected nominees of the members of (ARCNAKFS&T) and (AIN) from those
of the member Industries that are overdue on the payment of their annual
subscription and any other selected applicants will make their own
arrangement for international travel and will also be required to make payment
of a Processing Fee of US$600 to the Centre in advance.
(i) For nominations received from the Academic Research Centre of
Nayeb Aminullah Khan Foundation ARCNAKFS&T and AIN Centers for
Science and Technology of the NAM S&T Centre and other Developinp
Countires:: Entitles each Network member, which has no outstanding dues
against its membership subscription, to get invitation for two nominees each
year with full finances paid by the Centre for participation in appropriate
activities organised by the Centre. Accordingly, if a Network member has not
yet fully availed of this privilege and desires to make a nomination for
attending this Workshop, the NAM S&T Centre will provide to and for
international airfare to Colombo by Excursion Class by Shortest Route to such
official nominee of the Network member, if selected.
Any additional nominee(s) of the paying Afghanistan Industry Network
AIN Members, as well as the nominees of those Network Members, which are
overdue on the payment of their annual network membership subscription, if
selected, will make their own arrangement for international travel and will also
be required to make payment of a Processing Fee of US$600 to the Centre in
advance.
(j) For applicants from the non-member industries and any other
applicants in their individual capacity: They may send the completed
Nomination Form directly to the Academic Research Centre of Nayeb
Aminullah Khan Foundation (ARCNAKFS&T) and AIN Centers for Science
and Technology of the NAM S&T Centre and other Developinp Countires :

They will be required to pay a Processing Fee of US$500 to the NAM S&T
Centre ARCNAKFS&T immediately after selection and will also make their
own arrangement for international travel.
