WHAT I HAVE DONE?
3
I have started with zero knowledge about engineering disciplines. All
that I know was the names of engineering.
With this amazing opportunity I have found a chance to speak
different types of engineering disciplines. Before starting to this work
experience I was planning to be an electrical engineer or computer
engineer but after seeing them in real world I have changed my mind
with civil engineering.
4
• Civil engineers have the most varied career options
out of all the major engineering disciplines.
• Civil engineers understand the environment and how
they can use it safely and smartly to improve our
quality of life.
• Compared with the other disciplines, it is technically
less challenging.
WHY CIVIL ENGINEERING?
ENGINEERING DISCIPLINES
5
Engineering is a broad field that is divided into various disciplines
and sub-disciplines. The disciplines of engineering can be divided into
four main categories;
 Chemical
 Civil
 Electrical
 Mechanical
Each main discipline will provide with a “taste” of the various skills
and knowledge required to work in any field related to the discipline.
HOW DO THESE DISCIPLINES INTERACT?
6
 In a project, engineers creates puzzle pieces all they need to do is
put everything together but without having any idea about the other
disciplines they’ll make a mess. Nevertheless all the engineers have
an idea about the middle part of the puzzle.

Track:
 Expanding rails
 Where to start expanding rails
Signalling:
 Placement for signals
 Controlling signals
Telecoms:
 Cable types
 CCTV camera types
 Emergency points
 Ticket machines
Environment:
 Control the land for safety(is it available for expanding or not)
 Problems for cutting trees and what are the solutions
WHAT I’VE DONE WITH DISCIPLINES
11
Acoustics:
 Voice barriers
Civil:
 Giving decisions
 Building a bridge or moving the bridge
Structural:
 Designing the platforms
 Making placements (fire exits, seating areas, control room, signs etc.)
Constriction:
 Over look to the project
 Budget control
 Project controls for is it buildable or not
