Background
The #WorcestershireHour hashtag was founded on the 6th
May 2013 by Stuart Allen. What started as a few local
businesses networking on Twitter for one hour each
Monday evening has now become a social media
phenomenon with huge reach and influence.
#WorcestershireHour is the Twitter hub for Worcestershire
businesses, charities, event organisers and community
groups.
In 2018 the hashtag was used by 25,980 unique user
accounts and over 500,000 messages (original and
retweets) were generated. In the same year
#WorcestershireHour tweets landed in 19,800,000 Twitter
account timelines.
#WorcestershireHour now operates 365 days per year with
two ‘live hours’ per week (8pm Monday & 12pm
Wednesday). We have 20,600 mainly local followers.
In 2014 Worcestershire Enterprise Ltd was set up to handle
the commercial activities of #WorcestershireHour and the
business is run on social enterprise principles.
During 2014 the hashtag #WorcestershireHour and our
logo were fully registered as a trademark by the IPO.

#WorcestershireHour is funded by a small group of key
Sponsors and Partners.
Sponsors pay a monthly fee (payable quarterly in advance)
and there is no long term contract.
Partners provide goods or services that we need to operate
the business and the value of such arrangements are equal
or more than the equivalent sponsorship rate.
#WorcestershireHour has one full time employee (formerly
long term NEET) and sponsorship covers his salary.
A small amount of additional revenue is raised through
running social media training courses and the two events
we run each year; The Worcestershire Festival of
Business and The Worcestershire Social Media
Awards.

In December 2013 we subscribed to a Twitter analytics tool
called TweetReach from a business called Union Metrics.
This costs $120 per month but the statistics and
infographics we get are far superior to any other platforms.
We now have continuous data for five full years.
We publish #WorcestershireHour statistics twice a week
(Tuesdays and Thursdays) highlighting performance of our
two live events.
Obviously the only true measure of sponsorship/partnership
with #WorcestershireHour is sales but we also want to
ensure we are also continuously looking to develop the use
and reach of the hashtag.
