Sarojini Naidu was an Indian independence
activist and poetess who earned the sobriquet of
Nightingale of India.
Maya Angelou is one of the most influential women in American history and was a poet,
singer, memoirist, and civil rights activist, whose award-winning memoir I Know Why the
Caged Bird Sings made literary history as the first nonfiction best-seller by an African-
American woman.
Sojourner Truth is one of the most inspirational black women in America’s
history and her words belong to one of the most famous speeches by any
woman. An African-American abolitionist and women’s rights activist, Truth
delivered a now famous speech at the Ohio Women’s Right’s Convention in
Akron, 1851, that has come to be known as “Ain’t I a Woman?”
Rosa Parks was on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955, when the bus driver
asked her to stand up and give her seat to a white man. Parks, a black seamstress,
refused and in doing so sparked an entire civil rights movement in America.
Polish-born Marie Curie was a pioneering physicist and scientist, who
coined the term radioactivity, discovered two new elements (radium and
polonium) and developed a portable x-ray machine.
Amelia Earhart was the definition of a rule breaker. An American
aviator who became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic and
the first person ever to fly solo from Hawaii to the US, Amelia was a
pioneering aviator and a true female trailblazer.
AnandibaiGopalrao Joshi became the first Indian female physician in the year
1887. She was also the first Indian woman who was trained in Western
medicine and the first woman to travel to the United States of America.
Arunima Sinha is the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest. She
is also the first Indian amputee to climb the Everest. She was a national
level volleyball player who was pushed from a running train by thieves
in 2011 as she was resisting them.
Arati Saha became the first Indian and Asian woman to swim across
English Channel in the year 1959. She also became the first female
sportsperson to be awarded Padmashri in 1960.
Indira Gandhi became the first woman Prime Minister of India and served
from 1966 to 1977. Indira Gandhi was named as the "Woman of the
Millennium" in a poll which was organised by BBC in 1999. In 1971, she
became the first woman to receive the Bharat Ratna award.
Mother Teresa became the first Indian woman to win the Nobel Peace
Prize in 1979. Mother Teresa founded many Missionaries of Charity, a
Roman Catholic religious congregation, giving her life to social work.
Mithali Raj was the first woman to score a double hundred in Test
Cricket (214* against New Zealand at Wellington, 2004). She was
the first to achieve this landmark in the world.
Pratibha Patil became the first woman President of India and held
office from July 2007 to July 2012.
Kalpana Chawla was the first Indian woman who reached in space.
As a mission specialist and a primary robotic arm operator, she
went into space in 1997.
Kiran Bedi, joining Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1972, Kiran Bedi became
the first woman officer in India. Moreover, later in 2003, Kiran Bedi also
became the first woman who was appointed as the United Nations Civil
Police adviser.
Anjali Gupta is the first female flying officer in the Indian Air Force to be court
martialled. She used to work for the Aircraft Systems and Testing Establishment
unit in Bangalore. Anjali completed her Masters of Philosophy in Sociology from
the Delhi University and was first posted at Belgaum in 2001.
Priya Jhingan with a dream to be serve Indian Army, became the first lady
cadet to join the Indian Army in 1993.
Bachendri Pal became the first Indian woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest
In 1984. Later, she led expeditions in 1993, 1994 and 1997 with a team comprising of
only women in 'Indo-Nepalese Women's Mount Everest Expedition,' 'The Great
Indian Women's Rafting Voyage' and 'First Indian Women Trans-Himalayan
Expedition.'
Mary Kom Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom, also known as Mary Kom is the
only woman boxer who has won a medal in each of the six World
Championships. She was the only Indian woman boxer who qualified for the
2012 Olympics and became the first Indian woman boxer to win a gold medal in
Asian Games in 2014.
Sarla Thakral received the license for flying aircrafts when she was only 21 years old.
She became the first Indian woman to fly an aircraft. After earning the license, she
completed one thousand hours of flying an aircraft and became the first woman pilot to
obtain 'A' license. She also achieved the title of the first Indian to get airmail pilot's
licence.
Saina Nehwal became the first Indian women to win a medal in Badminton at 2012 Olympic
Games. Later in 2015, she became the first Indian woman to secure no. 1 position in world
rankings.
Sania Mirza, a professional tennis player, became the first ever Indian
woman to win the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) title in 2005. Later
in 2015, Sania Mirza became the first Indian woman to be ranked no. 1 in
WTA's double rankings.
Justice M. Fathima Beevi became the first female judge who was appointed
to the Supreme Court of India in 1989
Malala Yousafzai, also known mononymously as Malala, is a Pakistani
activist for female education and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate.
Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, is an Indian classical Bharata Natyam dancer. She is
also a research scholar, choreographer, music composer, musician, teacher,
Indologist and author.
Suzanna Arundhati Roy (born 24 November 1961) is an Indian author best known for
her novel The God of Small Things (1997), which won the Man Booker Prize for Fiction
in 1997 and became the biggest-selling book by a non-expatriate Indian author.
K. R. Gowri Amma (born 14 July 1919) is an Indian politician from Kerala. She heads
the Janathipathiya Samrakshana Samithy (JSS), a political party based in Kerala,
India. Prior to the formation of JSS she was a prominent figure in the communist
movement in Kerala.
Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha (born 27 June 1964) is a retired Indian track and
field athlete. She has been associated with Indian athletics since 1979. She is often
called the "queen of Indian track and field".
Sugathakumari (born 22 January 1934) is an Indian poet and activist, who
has been at the forefront of environmental and feminist movements in
Kerala, South India. Her parents were the poet and freedom fighter
Bodheswaran and V. K. Karthiyayini, a Sanskrit scholar.
Krishnan Nair Shantakumari Chithra, often credited as K. S. Chithra or simply Chithra,
is an Indian playback singer and carnatic musician from Kerala.
Sarah Joseph (born 1946) is a novelist and short story writer in Malayalam.
She won the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award for her novel Aalahayude
Penmakkal (Daughters of God the Father). She also received the Vayalar
Award for the same nove
Anju Bobby George (born 19 April 1977) is an Indian athlete. She is India's first
and only World Champion in Athletics IAAF World Athletics Final. Anju Bobby
George made history when she won the bronze medal in long jump at the 2003
World Championships in Athletics in Paris
Kamala Surayya (born Kamala; 31 March 1934 – 31 May 2009), popularly
known by her one-time pen name Madhavikutty and married name Kamala
Das, was an Indian English poet as well as a leading Malayalam author from
Kerala
Helen Adams Keller ( June 27,1880- June 1,1968) was an American
author, political activist, and lecturer. She was the first deaf-blind
person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Shreya Ghoshal (born 12 March 1984)[2] is an Indian playback singer. She
has received four National Film Awards, four Kerala State Film Awards, two
Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, seven Filmfare Awards including six for Best
Female Playback Singer and nine Filmfare Awards South.
Aung San Suu Kyi (born in 19June 1945) is a Burmese politician, diplomat,
author, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate(1991). She is thethe leader of the
National League for Democracy and the first andand incumbent State Counsellor,
a position akin to a prime minister.
Chloe Anthony wofford Morrison(February 18, 1931-August 5, 2019) known to the
world as Toni Morrison, was an American novelist, essayist, book editor, and College
professor. She gained world wide recognition when she was awarded the Nobel Prize in
Literature in 1993.

Shashi Despande (born in 1938) Indian novelist and short story writer, began
her career with short stories and has now authored nine short story collections,
twelve novels and four books for children. Three of her novels have received
awards, including the sahithya Akademi award.
Anita Nair (born 26 January 1966) is an Indian English-language
writer. She was born in Shoranur and graduated at NSS college
Otappalam
T. V. Anupama is an Indian Administrative Service officer.
She served as the 43rd District collector of Thrissur.She is
known for her bold steps against politically powerful
people.
Vasuki is a 2008 batch IAS official from Tamil Nadu and is
currently serving as the district collector of
Thiruvananthapuram. Ahead of assuming office as the
district collector in September this year, Vasuki served as
the Director of Suchitwa Mission.
Anita Desai, born Anita Mazumdar (born 24 June 1937) is
an Indian novelist and the Emerita John E. Burchard
Professor of Humanities at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology.As a writer she has been shortlisted for the
Booker Prize three times.
Gauri Lankesh (29 January 1962 – 5 September 2017)
was an Indian journalist-turned-activist from Bangalore,
Karnataka. She worked as an editor in Lankesh Patrike,
a Kannada weekly started by her father P. Lankesh, and
ran her own weekly called Gauri Lankesh Patrike.
Lakshmibai, the Rani of Jhansi (19 November 1828 –
18 June 1858), was the queen of the princely state of
Jhansi in North India currently present in Jhansi
district in Uttar Pradesh, India.She was one of the
leading figures of the Indian Rebellion of 1857 and
became a symbol of resistance to the British Raj for
Indian nationalists.
Jane Austen (16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) was an
English novelist known primarily for her six major novels,
which interpret, critique and comment upon the British
landed gentry at the end of the 18th century.
Lata Mangeshkar (born 28 September 1929) is an Indian
playback singer and music director. She is one of the best-
known and most respected playback singers in India.
Ma Anand Sheela (born 28 December 1949 as Sheela
Ambalal Patel in India, also known as Sheela Birnstiel)
is an Indian-born American–Swiss former
spokeswoman of the Rajneesh movement (aka Osho
movement).
Laxmi Agarwal (born 1 June 1990) is an Indian
campaigner with Stop Sale Acid and a TV host. She is an
acid attack survivor and speaks for the rights of acid
attack victims. She was attacked in 2005 at age 15, by a
32-year-old man named Gudda and his alias Nadeem
Syed whose advances she had rejected.
Wangarĩ Muta Maathai (1 April 1940 – 25
September 2011) was a renowned Kenyan social,
environmental and political activist and the first
African woman to win the Nobel Prize.
Greta Thunberg FRSGS (born 3 January 2003) is a
Swedish teenage environmental activist on climate
change whose campaigning has gained international
recognition.
Pusarla Venkata Sindhu (born 5 July 1995) is an Indian
professional badminton player. Having made her
international debut in 2009, she rose to a career high
ranking of no. 2 in April 2017. She became the World
Badminton Champion in 2019
Dipa Karmakar is an Indian artistic gymnast. Karmakar
first gained attention when she won a bronze medal at
the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, becoming
the first Indian female gymnast to do so in the history of
the Games.
Shaheen Mistri is an Indian social activist and
educator. She is the founder of Akanksha Foundation,
an Indian non-profit educational initiative in Mumbai
and Pune, and is also the CEO of Teach For India since
2008.
Irom Chanu Sharmila (born 14 March 1972),[1]
also known as the "Iron Lady"[2] or "Mengoubi"
("the fair one") is a civil rights activist, political
activist, and poet from the Indian state of Manipur.

on various crucial political and economical
issues raised by tribals, dalits, farmers, labourers
and women facing injustice in India.
Lilly Saini Singh is a Indo-Canadian YouTuber, talk
show host and actress, widely known as
IISuperwomanII. She also a bisexual woman who fights
for LGBTQ community
Alice Walker is an American novelist, short
story writer, poet, and social activist. In 1982,
she wrote the novel The Color Purple, for which
she won the National Book Award for hardcover
fiction, and the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
Margaret Eleanor Atwood (born November 18, 1939)
is a Canadian poet, novelist, literary critic, essayist,
inventor, teacher, and environmental activist. Since
1961, she has published 17 books of poetry, 16
novels, 10 books of non-fiction, eight collections of
short fiction, eight children's books, and one graphic
novel, as well as a number of small press editions in
poetry and fiction.
Mahaswetah Devi was an Indian Bengali fiction writer
and socio-political activist. Her notable literary works
include Hajar Churashir Maa, Rudali, and Aranyer
Adhikar.
Abala, Lady Bose was an Indian social worker. She was
known for her efforts in women's education and her
contribution towards helping widows.
Kamaladevi Chattopadhya (3 April 1903 – 29 October
1988) was an Indian social reformer and freedom
activist. She was most remembered for her
contribution to the Indian independence movement;
for being the driving force behind the renaissance of
Indian handicrafts, hand looms, and theater in
independent India.
Kittur Chennamma (23 October 1778 – 2 February
1829) was an Indian freedom fighter and Rani of the
Kittur, a former princely state in Karnataka. She led an
armed force against the British East India Company in
1824 in defiance of the doctrine of lapse in an attempt
to maintain Indian control over the region, but was
defeated in the third war and died imprisoned.

  • 1. Sarojini Naidu was an Indian independence activist and poetess who earned the sobriquet of Nightingale of India.
  • 2. Maya Angelou is one of the most influential women in American history and was a poet, singer, memoirist, and civil rights activist, whose award-winning memoir I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings made literary history as the first nonfiction best-seller by an African- American woman.
  • 3. Sojourner Truth is one of the most inspirational black women in America’s history and her words belong to one of the most famous speeches by any woman. An African-American abolitionist and women’s rights activist, Truth delivered a now famous speech at the Ohio Women’s Right’s Convention in Akron, 1851, that has come to be known as “Ain’t I a Woman?”
  • 4. Rosa Parks was on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955, when the bus driver asked her to stand up and give her seat to a white man. Parks, a black seamstress, refused and in doing so sparked an entire civil rights movement in America.
  • 5. Polish-born Marie Curie was a pioneering physicist and scientist, who coined the term radioactivity, discovered two new elements (radium and polonium) and developed a portable x-ray machine.
  • 6. Amelia Earhart was the definition of a rule breaker. An American aviator who became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic and the first person ever to fly solo from Hawaii to the US, Amelia was a pioneering aviator and a true female trailblazer.
  • 7. AnandibaiGopalrao Joshi became the first Indian female physician in the year 1887. She was also the first Indian woman who was trained in Western medicine and the first woman to travel to the United States of America.
  • 8. Arunima Sinha is the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest. She is also the first Indian amputee to climb the Everest. She was a national level volleyball player who was pushed from a running train by thieves in 2011 as she was resisting them.
  • 9. Arati Saha became the first Indian and Asian woman to swim across English Channel in the year 1959. She also became the first female sportsperson to be awarded Padmashri in 1960.
  • 10. Indira Gandhi became the first woman Prime Minister of India and served from 1966 to 1977. Indira Gandhi was named as the "Woman of the Millennium" in a poll which was organised by BBC in 1999. In 1971, she became the first woman to receive the Bharat Ratna award.
  • 11. Mother Teresa became the first Indian woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Mother Teresa founded many Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation, giving her life to social work.
  • 12. Mithali Raj was the first woman to score a double hundred in Test Cricket (214* against New Zealand at Wellington, 2004). She was the first to achieve this landmark in the world.
  • 13. Pratibha Patil became the first woman President of India and held office from July 2007 to July 2012.
  • 14. Kalpana Chawla was the first Indian woman who reached in space. As a mission specialist and a primary robotic arm operator, she went into space in 1997.
  • 15. Kiran Bedi, joining Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1972, Kiran Bedi became the first woman officer in India. Moreover, later in 2003, Kiran Bedi also became the first woman who was appointed as the United Nations Civil Police adviser.
  • 16. Anjali Gupta is the first female flying officer in the Indian Air Force to be court martialled. She used to work for the Aircraft Systems and Testing Establishment unit in Bangalore.   • 19. Mary Kom Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom, also known as Mary Kom is the only woman boxer who has won a medal in each of the six World Championships. She was the only Indian woman boxer who qualified for the 2012 Olympics and became the first Indian woman boxer to win a gold medal in Asian Games in 2014.
  • 20. Sarla Thakral received the license for flying aircrafts when she was only 21 years old. She became the first Indian woman to fly an aircraft. After earning the license, she completed one thousand hours of flying an aircraft and became the first woman pilot to obtain 'A' license. She also achieved the title of the first Indian to get airmail pilot's licence.
