Part 1: Contemporary Healthcare Facilities Just as the state of the healthcare industry and the concept of the patient have changed so have healthcare facilities. Physicians’ offices aren’t always offices anymore. Healthcare facilities can be mobile, virtual or traditional. This week we will look at how healthcare facilities have evolved. Besides concierge medicine and retail clinics, identify two other contemporary healthcare facilities identified in the literature. Discuss how marketers could advertise the new facilities and the impact you think the new facilities will have on healthcare consumers and currently existing facilities in the market. Part 2: Refocusing Facilities With the many changes occurring in the healthcare industry, managers may find themselves needing to change their strategy in order to stay relevant in the market. How This Course & Content Have Real-Word Application
We are witness to history and are living in one of the most active times in our country’s history for healthcare
reform. In 1966, the Medicare Act was signed into law by President Johnson, the most significant piece of
healthcare legislation in our country to that point. Fast forward from 1966 to 2010 and the passing of the
Affordable Care Act, which arguably is the second most impactful piece of legislation on U.S. health care
since the Medicare Act.
Medicare has grown significantly since 1966 and is now about 14% of our national budget, covering 47 million
Americans (Kaiser Family Foundation, 2015). Government health plans (Medicare, Medicaid, Tri-Care,
Veteran’s Administration) are growing and are on pace to insure more lives in the near future than lives
covered by commercial plans (Cigna, United, Blue Cross, etc.)
Speaking of this growth, Sylvia Burwell, Health & Human Secretary Director, announced that by 2018 the

Revisiting the Corporate and Commercial Determinants of Health
We trace the development of the concept of the corporate determinants of health. We argue that these determinants are predicated on the un- checked power of corporations and that the means by which corporations exert power is increasingly unseen.
We identify four of the ways corporations influence health: defining the dominant narra- tive; setting the rules by which society, especially trade, oper- ates; commodifying knowledge; and undermining political, so- cial, and economic rights.

It does, however, allow for the company to increase their market and therefore allow their product to be sold to more people, resulting in higher profits. Naturally, there are many benefits, and drawbacks, to global expansion. Background
Businesses usually begin to consider to expand within the global market, when they are in need of growth and new developments. A company can only grow so large within their domestic area before they need to consider international soils for further growth. The need for growth can occur one of several ways. Usually, it occurs when they are needing a new area to introduce their market, because their current market is already familiar with their products. There are, however, usually some characteristics that the company possesses beforehand, that would make them a good fit to begin thinking about global expansion. These traits include (but are not limited to): possessing an innate global bias, favoring the web, working with the right partners, valuing opportunity, knowing their metrics, taking international strategy seriously, etc. (Kelly, 2015). So what does all of this mean? Basically, if the company possesses these characteristics before they actually expand globally, they then possess the correct foundation to have a higher chance for success within the global market.
Once a company has decided to take the first step in looking into global expansion for their business, they then need to weigh out all of the challenges that they will face and determine whether or not these challenges are beneficial to the company’s risks. “How can a society or health plan meet population health care needs fairly under resource limita-
tions?” (Daniels, 2008, p. vii). This compelling and controversial question gives rise both to health
policy discussions and political debates. As enactment and implementation of the Affordable Care
Act has proceeded, public and political discourse has become heated whenever allocating scarce
resources—negatively labeled health care rationing—is discussed. One common allegation was
that the ACA would severely impede Americans’ freedom of choice in health care by empowering
expert panels (rather than treating clinicians) to make decisions about the care individuals could
receive. A prominent political candidate went so far as to suggest that “death panels” would be
set up by the government to “pull the plug on grandma” (cited in Viebek, 2012), and this concept
remains prominent in the public’s mind. (Figure 8.1 shows how Americans view the ACA.)

The United States’ health system under the ACA does, in fact, ration health care. However, this
phenomenon is not new or the result of a political agenda. Health care rationing is an inevitable
feature of modern health care systems all over the world. Whenever the need or demand for any
product or service outstrips its availability or supply, some form of rationing will occur. In recent
decades, the most common rationing mechanism in U.S. health care has been economic: Those
with the means or the third-party coverage to afford care went to the front of the queue, while
poor and uninsured Americans were less likely to receive needed care.
In areas other than health care, this aspect of modern civilization is not usually morally trou-
bling or tragic. Consider the difference between someone wanting a unique work of art and an

The main myth that drew my attention is that managed care is that HMOs threaten the quality of care. HMOs equal (bad) for-profit medicine. This research shall report on the validity or invalidity of this myth. From my point of view, the myth is invalid as it will be supported by the points highlighted below:
1) The goal of HMOs is to ensure that there is enough health care is available to society at the most affordable means.
2) HMOs exist as insurance set up for the cultural aspects of the people. This is due to the presence of the domineering medicinal culture in this land.
The topics in this writing shall include:
1) Fact elaboration-this will describe the fact about the myth presented here. It is factual to say that 0.89 of members of HMOs in Massachusetts are non-profit mind oriented. Most of the members here are among the excellent members of the country (Luft, 1980).
2) The impact of the myth to the public. It takes the bold citizens to refute this myth, and probably, the teenagers are in the light of successfully rebutting it. Under this topic, I shall include two subtopics which include:

The main myth that drew my attention is that managed care is that HMOs threaten the

Written Lecture
Unit IV is composed of Chapters 7 and 8. This unit focuses on America during
the time of the American Revolution and the establishment of the early American
republic. The details of the American Revolution are reviewed, and the key
issues with the creation of a truly “free” republic are discussed.
Chapter 7 looks at the two fronts of the American Revolution: the war against
Britain and the war between neighbors. Here, the focus is on the necessity of
this conflict from both the Patriot and the Loyalist points of view. The key issues
were the need for the British support and the actual need for separation. These
issues were fought not only on the battlefields but also between the elites of
each major society. The roles of women, the treatment of the natives, and the
continued use of slavery were all major issues during this time and led to key
debates in the desire for a free American nation.
Chapter 8 focuses on the establishment of the American nation after the war
with Britain. This chapter discusses the early leadership, debates, and the
establishment of the first true political party issues that existed as this new nation
– which was divided along ethnic, gender, and economic issues – struggled to
create a successful nation without the structure of the mighty empires that had
dominated the political and social landscape for so long before.
This unit looks past just the battles and acts of opposition against the British; it
takes a closer look into the many socio-economic issues that plagued this early
society.

An alternative to universal care through the Affordable Care Act are Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).
Proponents of Health Savings Accounts believe it encourages people to be value-conscious shoppers in the health care marketplace. For example, a 2012 study from the Rand Corporation, a policy research institute, found that families with consumer-directed health coverage, like HSA plans, spent an average of 21 percent less the first year after switching from traditional coverage. And that if half of those with employer-sponsored coverage were in such plans, health care costs would fall by $57 billion.
Defenders of ObamaCare—including New York Times economist Paul Krugman—do not believe people can make value-conscious health care decisions. Their preferred option is to insulate patients from almost all costs of care—otherwise known as national health insurance— and then control costs by imposing price controls. ObamaCare doesn’t get them all the way there, but it’s a big step in that direction.
However, if individuals and businesses have access to HSA plans, that might help offset the health care spending explosion that ObamaCare creates. Even now health insurers are warning of quickly rising premiums under ObamaCare. So HSA plans may be the only “affordable” option.
The real question is whether health insurers will offer HSA options at a reasonable price. One of the dirty little secrets is that health insurers offer an HSA plan, but price it so high that the more expensive, comprehensive coverage looks like a better deal. The insurance companies approved of ObamaCare in exchange for the anticipated extra patients signing up. This however, does nothing to decrease the cost or increase the ability of the individual to make decisions outside of the insurance company. Recently we have seen the insurance companies asking to be bailed out
because not enough younger people have signed up to compensate for the elderly on the plan. In fact ,both Aetna and United Health Care have threatened to pull out of the health market in 2016/2017.

“How can a society or health plan meet population health care needs fairly under resource limita-
tions?” (Daniels, 2008, p. vii). This compelling and controversial question gives rise both to health
policy discussions and political debates. As enactment and implementation of the Affordable Care
Act has proceeded, public and political discourse has become heated whenever allocating scarce
resources—negatively labeled health care rationing—is discussed. One common allegation was
that the ACA would severely impede Americans’ freedom of choice in health care by empowering
expert panels (rather than treating clinicians) to make decisions about the care individuals could
receive. A prominent political candidate went so far as to suggest that “death panels” would be
set up by the government to “pull the plug on grandma” (cited in Viebek, 2012), and this concept
remains prominent in the public’s mind. (Figure 8.1 shows how Americans view the ACA.)

The United States’ health system under the ACA does, in fact, ration health care. However, this
phenomenon is not new or the result of a political agenda. Health care rationing is an inevitable
feature of modern health care systems all over the world. Whenever the need or demand for any
product or service outstrips its availability or supply, some form of rationing will occur. In recent
decades, the most common rationing mechanism in U.S. health care has been economic: Those
with the means or the third-party coverage to afford care went to the front of the queue, while
poor and uninsured Americans were less likely to receive needed care.
In areas other than health care, this aspect of modern civilization is not usually morally trou-
bling or tragic. Consider the difference between someone wanting a unique work of art and an

This research shall report on the validity or invalidity of this myth. From my point of view, the myth is invalid as it will be supported by the points highlighted below:
1) The goal of HMOs is to ensure that there is enough health care is available to society at the most affordable means.
2) HMOs exist as insurance set up for the cultural aspects of the people. This is due to the presence of the domineering medicinal culture in this land.
The topics in this writing shall include:

Unit IV is composed of Chapters 7 and 8. This unit focuses on America during
the time of the American Revolution and the establishment of the early American
republic. The details of the American Revolution are reviewed, and the key
issues with the creation of a truly “free” republic are discussed.
Chapter 7 looks at the two fronts of the American Revolution: the war against
Britain and the war between neighbors. Here, the focus is on the necessity of
this conflict from both the Patriot and the Loyalist points of view. The key issues
were the need for the British support and the actual need for separation. These
issues were fought not only on the battlefields but also between the elites of
each major society. The roles of women, the treatment of the natives, and the
continued use of slavery were all major issues during this time and led to key
debates in the desire for a free American nation.
Chapter 8 focuses on the establishment of the American nation after the war
with Britain. This chapter discusses the early leadership, debates, and the
establishment of the first true political party issues that existed as this new nation
– which was divided along ethnic, gender, and economic issues – struggled to

An alternative to universal care through the Affordable Care Act are Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).
Proponents of Health Savings Accounts believe it encourages people to be value-conscious shoppers in the health care marketplace. For example, a 2012 study from the Rand Corporation, a policy research institute, found that families with consumer-directed health coverage, like HSA plans, spent an average of 21 percent less the first year after switching from traditional coverage. And that if half of those with employer-sponsored coverage were in such plans, health care costs would fall by $57 billion.
Defenders of ObamaCare—including New York Times economist Paul Krugman—do not believe people can make value-conscious health care decisions. Their preferred option is to insulate patients from almost all costs of care—otherwise known as national health insurance— and then control costs by imposing price controls. ObamaCare doesn’t get them all the way there, but it’s a big step in that direction.
However, if individuals and businesses have access to HSA plans, that might help offset the health care spending explosion that ObamaCare creates. Even now health insurers are warning of quickly rising premiums under ObamaCare. So HSA plans may be the only “affordable” option.
The real question is whether health insurers will offer HSA options at a reasonable price. One of the dirty little secrets is that health insurers offer an HSA plan, but price it so high that the more expensive, comprehensive coverage looks like a better deal. The insurance companies approved of ObamaCare in exchange for the anticipated extra patients signing up. This however, does nothing to decrease the cost or increase the ability of the individual to make decisions outside of the insurance company. Recently we have seen the insurance companies asking to be bailed out
because not enough younger people have signed up to compensate for the elderly on the plan. In fact ,both Aetna and United Health Care have threatened to pull out of the health market in 2016/2017.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Part 1: Contemporary Healthcare Facilities Just as the state of the healthcare industry and the concept of the patient have changed so have healthcare facilities. Physicians’ offices aren’t always offices anymore. Healthcare facilities can be mobile, virtual or traditional. This week we will look at how healthcare facilities have evolved. Besides concierge medicine and retail clinics, identify two other contemporary healthcare facilities identified in the literature. Part 2: Refocusing Facilities With the many changes occurring in the healthcare industry, managers may find themselves needing to change their strategy in order to stay relevant in the market. Changing strategic focus takes time, effort and planning. As healthcare continues to evolve the idea of changing corporate strategic focus may begin to occur more often in healthcare businesses. A strategy of focusing a general facility to specialize in ethnic or other minority group care can be very risky. List at least three analyses that should be completed before reaching this decision. Be specific about the factors that should be included in each analysis.
