Ancient Rome
The Romans created the largest empire in antiquity, starting with the founding of Rome in 753 BC and ending with the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 AD. Over this 1200 year period, Rome transitioned from a monarchy to a republic and then an empire that dominated territories across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Key events included the establishment of the Roman Republic in 509 BC, the Punic Wars with Carthage, the expansion across the Mediterranean under the empire, and the division of the empire into Western and Eastern halves in 395 AD prior to the fall of the Western Empire.

The Palaeolithic
The Paleolithic period lasted from approximately 4.4 million years ago until 10,000 BC. Paleolithic people were nomadic hunter-gatherers who lived in tribes and followed animals like deer and mammoth to hunt for meat. They gathered fruits, nuts, and vegetables and lived seasonally in tents or natural caves. Tools were made from stone using flintknapping or from bones, and fire was controlled and used for warmth, light, and cooking. Cave paintings depicted hands, animals, and hunting scenes and were an early form of artistic expression. Spiritual beliefs likely involved nature forces and ancestor spirits.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. Jaime is always jealous. - Marta always has to tell Jaime where she is or what she is doing, because otherwise Jaime gets really angry with her. - Jaime does not let Marta to go out with her friends. - Marta always feels guilty when she does something Jaime does not like. - Jaime thinks he can insult Marta when she does something he doesn’t like, because she’s stupid. - Jaime threatens Marta physically all the time. He often gets nervous. - Jaime thinks women are inferior to men, and they should obey men. - Marta is afraid of Jaime because he goes mad and shouts all the time.
- 27. A message to girls... Do not accept a man to control your life. Even if he is your boyfriend. Do not accept any man to ever hit you, not even once! That is an unhealthy relationship, and it must be finished immediately. To hit a person is never acceptable. You have the right to be whoever you want to be. You are free to have your own personality. Your partner does not have the right to impose who you should be.
