WHO KILLED ALASKA?
#20 - THE FINAL PROLOGUE
written by
Cameron Cooper LeBrun
HOST [narrator]
We at the Ghost Factory cannot confirm or deny the validity of Boo and Denver’s recordings, nor
will we make any attempt to explain the included events. We primarily edit down the audio we
receive into 45-minute episodes with added music— thank you Thor.
We did not tamper with any audio from the summer of 2023, during which Boo Curtis,
Josephine Magaro, Glory Johnson, and a dog either fell or dove into a nature preserve’s pond
known locally as The Stump Town Lake. We previously released snippets of the 22 hours that
these three brave individuals spent underwater, allegedly also hopping between alternate realities
within the lake. Uh. Can I have some context for this? It says alternate reality— what does
alternate realities mean— here, in this situa—
But we can confirm one thing for you, and that’s that if you were on Long Island that day,
then you might’ve heard the following audio broadcast.
Radio static.
HOST [narrator]
You see, while three people were submerged at Stump Town, twelve dissimilar Long Island radio
broadcasts were interrupted, including Z100, a favorite Katy Perry-centric music station among
all phys-ed teachers. Instead of tuning in to hear a remix of Cheerleader, Long Islanders switched
on their radios to hear static, and then, a broadcast listeners later described as “bizarre,” “weird,”
and “strange.” What they heard, was this:

STATIC & WHIRRING.
SHADOWMOON
Boo. It’s your psychic. It’s your “spiritual advisor.” It’s Riley Shadowmoon. It takes more than
some crystal ball to see you— yes, a much stranger ritual than that. Very ethical, I assure you.
Just don’t mind the dozens of Godzilla bobbleheads I’ve got here. It’s possible you can’t even
hear me. I can just hope my words are reaching you. You’re at the bottom of the lake in Stump
Town, and the bottom of that lake is the final doorway to Purgatory.
When Glory’s body went into the lake, you followed her.
Splash.
SHADOWMOON
And you’re probably talking to your reflection now. After all, your reflection is also a part of you
— one that only shows in mirrors and water. Don’t be alarmed when your soul separates from
your body, and don’t be alarmed when your reflection separates from your body as well.
Hopefully, you and your reflection have figured out by now that Glory’s body should not
be in this lake. Hopefully, Glory will not survive. I know that might sound cruel, Boo. I know
you love her. But when you fall in love with a memory, that memory can grow into a cage. You
cannot grow or change as long as Glory is down there with you. Hopefully, you will let go of her
at last.
3
And I hope that you will change. I know you’ve always hated to be strange. I know
you’ve hated people looking at you strange, when you say too much, and they can’t keep up. But
Outsiders are like people, Boo. They can be reborn.
Soon, Jo will arrive in the lake to meet you. And Boo, if you can hear me, you and Jo
have a destiny to fulfill. You two must navigate a labyrinth of so many fake versions of each
other to find the real Jo, the real Boo, the real you two in one place. You’ll meet Jo’s reflection,
and she’ll meet yours. You’ll meet so many alternate realities’ Jos and Boos. But just remember:
if Jo says she’s real, you’ve found a fake. And Jo’s gonna know, only a fake Boo Curtis would
say he’s real. And you’ll find alternate realities one after another— different versions of your life,
created by Purgatory. And then you’re gonna find each other. And you will become two halves of
the same person, bending fate itself. Interlocked, for the rest of your lives on land. You will bump
into each other at grocery stores. You will somehow coincidentally be summoned together for
jury duty. You will invent the same wifi password despite not talking since before this router was
purchased from the same Best Buy. And if one of you dies, you’ll see the other’s smile lingering
on the faces of strangers. But just beware: your egos will be traded. Your very selves will blur,
one into the other.
I hope you’ve realized by now what’s happened. Alaska’s death broke you out of
dissociation so you could feel. Only when Alaska died could you love your brother. Alaska died
for you. But! Love is a meaningless word at the pit of a pile of dead bodies. So, you must
perform the impossible. Your reflection did not lie. If you can understand your brother’s death—
how it happened, and what it meant— then you can bring back your only Alaska.
4
This is the final destination. You have to understand me, Boo. THIS is the FINAL
DESTINATION. You must survive the lake. Become someone new; someone who can save
Alaska. Can you hear me, Boo? Live! Live! LIVE!
HOSPITAL ROOM.
Boo inhales.
HOST [narrator]
And Boo did live. Finn says Boo’s body was limp when he was pulled out of the water. When
Boo woke up in the hospital, though, his water-logged phone was somehow still recording. And
here is that recording for you.
BOO
Where’s Jo?
LAMPMAN
I thought you’d never wake up.
BOO
Where’s Alice?
LAMPMAN
I thought you felt familiar. I remember you.
BOO
Are you a doctor? Why are you standing so far on the other side of the room?
5
LAMPMAN
My name is Doctor Lampman. I was re-hired recently, when the hospital’s management changed.
I worked at this hospital four years ago. At that time, I assisted in the surgery of Alaska Curtis.
You’re his brother. Aren’t you?
BOO
Why, why, why— Are you allowed to tell me that?
LAMPMAN
I owe you. Don’t I? I want you to take my card.
Lampman walks over and gives Boo her card.
BOO
I can’t take your card. My arm won’t lift. I just woke up.
LAMPMAN
Then I’ll put it on your bed, and you can pick it up later. If you want to know about your
brother’s death, I’m your woman.
BOO
Wait… I almost feel like I remember you, too.
LAMPMAN
Then you’re playing a nasty trick on yourself. There’s nothing to remember.
Lampman’s footsteps leave the room.
