The windmills of Kinderdijk in the Netherlands were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most of the windmills have been renovated to work by pumping water from the lowlands into canals and rivers using wind power, though some now use motor-driven pumps. All of the windmills are now national monuments.
