Challenge: Launch technology business incubator in depressed area of anti-business
community. Facility fully integrated and self-sustaining within three years. The facility was fully
integrated and self-sustaining within three years. It was the center of a diverse community that
included a thriving technological, entrepreneurial culture and also became a gathering place for
artists, several minority groups, along with firefighters and law enforcement communities.
Challenge: Develop proof of concept business incubation program for community that lost one-
third of its manufacturing jobs and 20% of its population over the previous 10 years.
Wrote and was awarded two million dollar grant that enable the community to build a
technology business incubator as the hub of a new enterprise zone. (Studies show business
incubators reverse the high failure rate of start-up businesses with over 80% remaining in the
communities in which they were nurtured.)
Challenge: Bring comprehensive entrepreneurial development program to Indiana business
incubation network. Successfully launched program in over five locations throughout the state.
Training 25 instructors and over 200 entrepreneurs. Program not only further improved the
success of small businesses in Indiana (on average, increasing gross sales by 32% after the first
year of graduation), but brought together the resources of Indiana Small Business Centers with
the network of Indiana incubators. The program provided valuable, measurable, and
standardized training to the network.
CAREER STRENGTH
 Responsible for managing 2.8 million dollar facility and $200,000 annual budget
 Developed and documented “best practices” policies and procedures for program and
facilities management to include award of IRS 501(c)(3) status
 Coached early-stage, high-tech businesses in fund development, technology
commercialization, business planning, management, marketing, sales, finance, and
government contracts

entrepreneurs from six states before 100 venture capitalists
 Managed Annual Indiana Entrepreneur Day Conference providing 16 workshops for over 600
