4 RTM EDITIONS OF "WINDOWS 8.."

o "Windows 8"
o "Windows 8 Pro"
o "Windows 8 RT"
o "Windows 8 Enterprise"

                      10
4 RTM EDITIONS OF "WINDOWS 8.."
           (continued)
o No "full version" of "Windows 8.." will be
  available:
  Only "Upgrade Edition"
       and
       "System Builder" edition instead of
  "Full Version".
        "System Builder" edition probably
cannot be moved to another computer or
  motherboard.
                                11
4 RTM EDITIONS OF "WINDOWS 8.."
                 (continued)
o Some vendors such as "Newegg"
are referring to the "System Builder"
as a "Full Version". However, in the
past the term "Full Version" implied
the ability to phone Microsoft for a
   activation key to move "Windows.."
to another computer or to another
   motherboard.
                             12
A COMPARISON OF THE EDITIONS:
o "Windows 8" (edition with fewest
  features)
o "Windows 8 Pro" (has "Hyper-V", can
add in "Windows Media Center" for +$10)
o "Windows 8 RT" (for tablets)
o "Windows 8 Enterprise" (has "Hyper-V",
cannot add in "Windows Media Center",
has "Windows To Go", not available at
  retail, for volume "Software Assurance"
  sales to organizations, free time-limited
  evaluation available for everyone!)
                               13
THE "WINDOWS 8 ENTERPRISE
EVALUATION" IS A TRIAL OF A VERSION
OF "WINDOWS 8" THAT YOU WILL
   NEVER BE ABLE TO PURCHASE!

• But it is close enough to the
  versions of "Windows 8" that
you will be able to purchase that
it is a great learning and testing
tool at a fabulously great price
  (free!). 14
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE
  "..ENTERPRISE EDITION" AND THE
  OTHER EDITIONS OF "WINDOWS 8"
• See
  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows
  _8_editions
      and
  http://blogs.windows.com/windows/b
  /bloggingwindows/archive/2012/04/1
  6/announcing-the-windows-8-
  editions.aspx 15
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE
  "..ENTERPRISE EDITION" AND THE
  OTHER EDITIONS OF "WINDOWS 8"
• Unlike the "Pro" edition of "Windows
8", you cannot add "Windows Media
Center" to the evaluation or RTM
  versions of "Windows 8 Enterprise".

                            16
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE
ENTERPRISE EDITION AND THE OTHER
EDITIONS OF "WINDOWS 8" (continued)
• The evaluation and "real" versions of
  "Windows 8 Enterprise" have
"Windows To Go" which lets you
  create bootable USB flash drives
  and bootable USB external hard
  drives.
• No other edition of "Windows 8" has
  this feature. 17
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE
ENTERPRISE EDITION AND THE OTHER
EDITIONS OF "WINDOWS 8" (continued)
• When the "real" Windows 8
  computers are sold starting in
October 26, 2012, they will be
running either the "Windows 8" or
the "Windows 8 Pro" editions of
  "Windows 8". These two versions
will NOT have "Windows To Go".
                            18
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE
 "WINDOWS 8 ENTERPRISE EVALUTION"
• According Microsoft's Website:

                           19
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS..(continued)

• Many bloggers and
  discussion group participants
  have stated that the actual
  minimum requirement for
RAM for the 32-bit version of
  "Windows 8.." is 2 Gigabytes
                        20
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS..(continued)
• Paul Thurrott stated that the 1 Gigabyte
minimum requirement for RAM for the
32-bit version of "Windows 8.." and the
  2 Gigabyte minimum requirement for
RAM for the 64-bit version of "Windows
  8.." is "ludicrous".

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS..(continued)
• Members of the Tucson
  Computer Society have made
  several failed attempts to install
  "Windows 8 Consumer Preview
  32-bit" into computers with 1
Gigabyte of RAM so we agree
  with Paul Thurrott.
                           23
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS..(continued)
• To determine if a "Pentium 4"
  computer is capable of running
  "Windows 8..", you can download
  and run Microsoft's free "Coreinfo"
program by following our "how to"
  instructions at

WAYS FOR YOU TO TRY OUT THE
 "WINDOWS 8 ENTERPRISE EVALUATION"
• Method 1:
Install it into a real computer.
• Method 2:
Install it into a virtual machine.
• Method 3:
Create a "Windows To Go" USB

WAYS FOR YOU TO TRY OUT THE
"WINDOWS 8 ENTERPRISE EVALUATION"
METHOD 1: INSTALL IT INTO A REAL
           COMPUTER
• If you have a spare
  computer handy, you can
  install "Windows 8
  Enterprise Evaluation" into
  it. 26
WAYS FOR YOU TO TRY.. (continued):
         METHOD 2: INSTALL THE
"WINDOW 8 ENTERPRISE EVALUATION"
        INTO A VIRTUAL MACHINE
• Step 1: Install a free virtual machine
program such as "VMware Player 4 or 5"

WAYS FOR YOU TO TRY OUT THE
 "WINDOWS 8 ENTERPRISE EVALUATION"
METHOD 3: BOOTABLE "WINDOWS TO GO"
                    DEVICE
• If you have an empty USB flash storage
device or an empty external USB hard drive
(that has at least 16 Gigabytes of capacity),
you can help you make it into a "Windows To
Go" device by placing a copy of the free
Windows 8 Enterprise Evaluation on it.
You can then use this device to non-
destructively boot up most Pentium 4 or
   higher computers with "Windows 8
   Enterprise Trial.." 29
PRODUCT KEY
The installation process for "Windows
8 Enterprise Evaluation" does not
require a product key.
However, if "Windows 8 Enterprise
Evaluation" demands that you enter in
a product key (during a maintenance
procedure), put in

HELP AND ADVICE FOR USING
      "WINDOWS 8" (continued)
• If you use a "Windows To Go"
device to boot up a computer with
  "Windows 8 Enterprise
  Evaluation", do not remove the
  bootable USB flash drive or
external USB hard drive until the
  computer is totally powered off:
                          31
32
HELP AND ADVICE FOR USING
       "WINDOWS 8" (continued)
• Prior to the RTM versions of
"Windows 8", the "Windows To Go"
feature allowed you to remove the
USB flash drive or USB external hard
drive for up to 60 seconds and then
re-insert it. Folks are still raving about
this (discontinued) feature all over the
Web so do not be misled by all this
  raving! 33
