This document evaluates the performance of two broker hierarchy topologies for distributed publish-subscribe middleware: a tree topology and a cluster topology. The tree topology has a simple structure but the root node becomes a bottleneck. The cluster topology has a more complex structure that distributes load across three clustering levels, making it more scalable. An experiment was conducted to test the throughput of subscriptions and publications in each topology. The results showed differences in how efficiently each topology handled subscriptions and publications.
