Knowing Filipino Modern Artists and their worksErica Gonzales
Modern Philippine art has evolved into diverse expressions and mediums. Young artists feel art is about creation rather than mastery of craft. Filipino artists now have freedom to explore on their own terms and their works show love for country and culture. Philippine art has become international in scope after periods of external influence, and artists now develop distinctively Filipino forms that express the national spirit. The document then profiles several modern Filipino artists who were National Artists, focusing on their styles, mediums, and contributions to developing a uniquely Filipino artistic imagery and vision.

She studied art in Chicago and New York City and was influenced by Japanese art and photography. In the 1920s she began painting large-scale flowers and abstracted forms inspired by her surroundings. One of her most famous paintings is Summer Days from 1936, which features a large cow skull against a backdrop of desert and flowers, representing life and death cycles in nature. In the Philippines, contemporary art is dominated by abstraction, expressionism, social realism, and mixed media works, with some Western influences. Community and environmental arts are also gaining popularity.
Georgia O'Keeffe was an American painter known for her abstract paintings of flowers, shells, and bones. She pioneered modernism in America by painting subjects up close to show their form and color rather than attempting realistic depictions. O'Keeffe believed an artist should create their own visual equivalent of what they see rather than directly copying it. Her large-scale paintings of flowers in particular drew viewers in to see details they might otherwise overlook.
Georgia O'Keefe was an American artist born in 1887 in Wisconsin who pioneered new techniques in her paintings. She attended several art schools and exhibited her works in New York, developing a unique style of using vibrant colors and unusual perspectives to depict emotions. Though the World Wars and Great Depression made it difficult for her to sell her art at times, O'Keefe continued developing her revolutionary approach to composition and subject matter that changed the landscape of modern art.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The assessment process can be used to provide feedback and support for professional development, to inform decisions about teacher retention or promotion, or to evaluate teacher effectiveness for accountability purposes.
