Giving, philanthropy and creating a democratic society. Findings from studies...Giving Centre
This document summarizes three studies on philanthropy and donor behavior. The first study found that while donors believe giving decisions should be needs-based, in reality gifts are influenced more by personal tastes, backgrounds, perceptions of charities' competence, and desires to make an impact. The second study found that homeless individuals prefer fundraising images that educate donors about homelessness over "pity pictures". The third study showed that while corporations control philanthropy, employees select causes based on personal experiences and preferences and see fundraising as an opportunity for fun. In conclusion, philanthropy is supply-driven by donor preferences rather than needs, and cannot be relied on to replace public spending or create a more democratic society.
Charity involves voluntarily giving help, such as money, goods, time, or kindness, to those in need. It provides basic necessities like food, water, clothing, and healthcare. Many charitable organizations allow people to donate directly or online to support causes like orphanages, food banks, and hospitals for the poor. The document discusses why people give to charity, including that it makes the giver happy by giving happiness to others. It also discusses principles of volunteer work, such as working for solidarity with an organization's objectives rather than personal gain. The author expresses a future aim to open an organization called United Volunteers of Kazakhstan to help children, elders, disabled people and orphans through fundraising and volunteer activities.
Improving Donor Retention: How Creative Thank You’s and Cultivating an Attitu...4Good.org
Simply put: Donor retention is your most important fundraising opportunity.
Most nonprofits are leaking donors like crazy. They acquire; they don’t retain. On average folks lose 7 out of 10 donors after the first gift. Why? If your answer to any of the following is “true”, this webinar will help you: (1) I spend more time and resources acquiring donors than thanking them; (2) I treat acknowledgement as an afterthought; (3) I don’t think donors care that much about when and how they’re thanked after they give.
While donors want to change the world with their gifts, most want something else too. It’s intangible, but it’s important. And if you won’t give it to them, someone else will. The important social acknowledgement and identity reinforcement that comes from a heartfelt, thoughtful thank you cannot be underestimated. Truly, how and when you thank your donors can make or break your entire fundraising program.
A great thank you program can increase the lifetime value of your donor base by 200%!
It’s not hard to do, but most of us simply don’t put much zip into our donor acknowledgment programs. If this sounds like you and your nonprofit, it’s time to show your awesome donors some awesome you!
Help others in your community through small acts of service. Look for opportunities to assist neighbors, volunteer with community projects, teach classes, or befriend senior citizens. Any efforts to help should be sustainable and aim to improve people's lives.

The document summarizes an interview with Edgar Schein about his new book "Helping: How to Offer, Give and Receive Help." Some key points:
1) Schein wrote the book to explain how to effectively help others based on his experience as an organizational consultant.
2) Providing help before the recipient is ready or willing leads to frustration. Good help involves asking questions to understand the real problem or need.
3) This "humble inquiry" builds trust and puts the recipient at ease, making them more receptive to assistance. It also ensures the helper addresses the actual issue.
4) Effective change management similarly requires involving those affected to understand how they can be helped, not just dict

Before you get started fundraising, you need to understand donors - why they do or do not give. Then using stories to connect and communicate - online and offline. Once that is in place, leveraging the cost effective, high learning, easy to spread nature of online to infuse your fundraising becomes easier.
1) Ask open-ended questions that make people think creatively about problems and perspectives, such as "Why do you think sales of our electronic toilet paper dispenser are so poor?".
2) Be provocative by questioning assumptions and considering alternatives, but avoid offending. For example, suggest technology may replace doctors to provoke debate.
3) Provide positive reinforcement and compliments rather than just criticism to encourage risk-taking and sharing of new ideas.
The document provides guidance on developing effective propositions for fundraising appeals. An effective proposition should answer the question "Why should I support/donate now?" It should concisely communicate the problem/need, the proposed solution, the cost, a sense of urgency, and the benefits to the donor. Developing the proposition involves filtering through project truths, donor insights, and brand truths to identify the most compelling nugget of information to engage donors. The proposition should be emotionally impactful in a way that motivates action and inspires support.

The Evolution and Impact of OTT Platforms: A Deep Dive into the Future of Ent...ABHILASH DUTTA
This presentation provides a thorough examination of Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms, focusing on their development and substantial influence on the entertainment industry, with a particular emphasis on the Indian market. We begin with an introduction to OTT platforms, defining them as streaming services that deliver content directly over the internet, bypassing traditional broadcast channels. These platforms offer a variety of content, including movies, TV shows, and original productions, allowing users to access content on-demand across multiple devices. The historical context covers the early days of streaming, starting with Netflix's inception in 1997 as a DVD rental service and its transition to streaming in 2007. The presentation also highlights India's television journey, from the launch of Doordarshan in 1959 to the introduction of Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite television in 2000, which expanded viewing choices and set the stage for the rise of OTT platforms like Big Flix, Ditto TV, Sony LIV, Hotstar, and Netflix. The business models of OTT platforms are explored in detail. Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) models, exemplified by Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, offer unlimited content access for a monthly fee. Transactional Video on Demand (TVOD) models, like iTunes and Sky Box Office, allow users to pay for individual pieces of content. Advertising-Based Video on Demand (AVOD) models, such as YouTube and Facebook Watch, provide free content supported by advertisements. Hybrid models combine elements of SVOD and AVOD, offering flexibility to cater to diverse audience preferences.
Content acquisition strategies are also discussed, highlighting the dual approach of purchasing broadcasting rights for existing films and TV shows and investing in original content production. This section underscores the importance of a robust content library in attracting and retaining subscribers. The presentation addresses the challenges faced by OTT platforms, including the unpredictability of content acquisition and audience preferences. It emphasizes the difficulty of balancing content investment with returns in a competitive market, the high costs associated with marketing, and the need for continuous innovation and adaptation to stay relevant.
The impact of OTT platforms on the Bollywood film industry is significant. The competition for viewers has led to a decrease in cinema ticket sales, affecting the revenue of Bollywood films that traditionally rely on theatrical releases. Additionally, OTT platforms now pay less for film rights due to the uncertain success of films in cinemas.
Looking ahead, the future of OTT in India appears promising. The market is expected to grow by 20% annually, reaching a value of ₹1200 billion by the end of the decade. The increasing availability of affordable smartphones and internet access will drive this growth, making OTT platforms a primary source of entertainment for many viewers.
