2. Personal Reasons
I major in interdisciplinary studies for two main reasons.
One being because before I had chose this major I was
still undeclared and found out that if I didn’t declare a
major, I could no longer receive financial aid.
I also chose this major because I wasn’t particularly sure
about what I wanted to do with my life and
interdisciplinary studies allows me to explore other
majors without penalties.

3. What Is Interdisciplinary Studies
Interdisciplinary Studies offer students the opportunity to put together their
own degree program. Based on their interests, they can choose three
concentrations in different professional and/or liberal arts areas of study,
and sample a number of academic and professional disciplines. This
multifaceted approach, which encourages a broad-based education built on
a progressive core curriculum, offers the opportunity to tailor a student’s
degree toward one or several career fields.
The program in interdisciplinary studies offers three degrees: bachelor of
arts, bachelor of science, and bachelor of professional studies. Although all
students complete the same core courses, individual degree plans differ
significantly. Students who complete at least 75 percent (90 credits or more)
of liberal arts courses will be granted a B.A. Those who complete at least 50
percent (60-80 credits) of liberal arts courses are awarded a B.S. The
B.P.S. degree is granted to those students with fewer than 60 credits of
liberal arts courses.

a lot but that is solely based on their concentrations.

You can choose up to three majors to be your
concentrations but they will be considered to be minors.

If you choose to have two concentrations, you will have to
take up to eighteen hours in those courses.
If you chose to have three minors, you will only have to
take up to twelve hours worth of classes in that field.

gives you so much to choose from.

training can open the door to careers as a news reporter,
photojournalist or researcher. Graduates can work as a
copy editor, publicist or writer. They can work in public
relations as a publicist or work as health-care
administrators

14. Pros and Cons of An IDS Major
It highly depends on what degree and what employers you are talking about.
Speaking in VERY general terms, an interdisciplinary degree could either
come off as being unfocused and unspecialized, or, creative and pleasantly
different, depending on what job your are looking for.
In short, it could either make you stand out as different (special) for certain
employers, or it could make you unqualified for jobs that require a specific
major for other employers.
The best thing to do is to first establish your goal, then think backwards. What
do you need to accomplish before you are eligible reach your goal? Make
the steps, continuing to work backwards, until you get to where you are
presently. Then, follow through

15. Would I Refer IDS To Other
People?
Yes but I would tell them if they were thinking of pursuing
this major to make sure they are doing it for the right
reasons and not because they think its the easy way out.
