This document uses maps, charts, graphs and pictures to summarize why the North won the American Civil War. It compares the population and casualties of both sides, and shows the North had advantages in available men for service, industry, railroads, military resources, recruiting African Americans, border states, and leadership under Abraham Lincoln. The South had disadvantages including inflation, fewer railroad lines in 1860, and missed opportunities. It also lists reasons the South could have won, such as defending, geography, using slaves to fuel the economy, psychological factors, the importance of cotton, and superior generals.
